Qantas Platinum One experiences?

What will I miss?
Platinum for partner, earlier flights when arriving at airport early, a bottle of champagne at christmas, and the knowledge that if the cough hits the fan, I've got a number to dial.

Good summery. Will probably drop to WP next year for the first time since P1 was introduced and going to miss all the things you've mentioned, especially the FlyAhead option which saves me a lot of money but ironically this benefit is going to be the main contributor for loosing my status as I completely stopped booking Flexi fares.

Oh wow not a bad run and soon to become senior member!

Ok Qantas - it's a deal. You can carry on sending me bland corporate emails as long as the op-ups keep coming. J to F on QF8 yesterday - thanks very much Platinum One team

great free upgrade to get!! I'm impressed.

question - did you put in for points upgrade from J->F (or was this an award ticket?) ) or not?

I usually put in for points upgrades (always come through) so never gotten the chance(I guess) of something like this. I guess I'd rather secure F if I can than hope on a op up or similar gift. That's just me though :)

That's exactly my thinking and I will more than likely continue to put in points upgrade requests.

It was a revenue ticket in J, no points upgrade request - new boarding pass issued at the lounge in Dallas (with an "enjoy your flight" message from the Platinum One team. Just checking my activity statement and that's the third op-up in the last 12 months on that route (out of 8 SYD - DFW or vice versa)

I have to ask - do you not consider the F experience over J valuable enough to spend points on to request an upgrade prior? or with your track record just leave it to P1? :D

anyway awesome that you get these P1 upgrades

(incidently I do not consider the P1 team upgrades to be op ups, as they tend to give them even if a cabin is not oversold and so on. I see these as QF courtesy upgrades to reward loyalty)

I certainly like the F experience but I spend most of my points on family travel which doesn't leave many for upgrading myself. I think two of the upgrades had the Platinum One message and the other was a straightforward oversold op-up

I have only read snippets of this thread. But I have recently booked a flight that will take me to P1 for the first time (in August). As part of my overall love of flying this is an important milestone for me.

I am based overseas so some of the events things will be meaningless to me, but I love QF and to be a top tier flyer makes me happy :)

Congrats and welcome aboard! Great effort if you are not AU based!

Based outside of oz and making P1 is a feat indeed. You must have very regular QF flights back home to get the 2700 min QF metal I would think.

very well done!

RichardMel, I work in Colombia but have family and homebase on the Sunshine Coast in Qld now. As Qantas do not allow bookings from Colombia I book through LAN or via a third party. It always irritates me as I can never take advantage of QF WP status to get good seats (system problems that will never resolve) My main earn of QF SC is just on the AKL-BNE legs. But I travel once every six weeks or so in J so these legs slowly build up the QF SC. This year (as in previous) I spend a yearly average of one out of every twelve hours in the air.

But making P1 and LTG I am sort of lost. Not sure where to go now. I am also Star Alliance Gold (Avianca Diamond) so there seems to be just no targets left. Might have to start using points :)

Ignore me if this is a really dumb question - but wouldn't your LAN/QF bookings show up on your QFF page, if you are crediting to QF? And, in that case, couldn't you do seat selection through QF? [That's two dumb questions.:)]

A little OT, but I fly Avianca in Colombia. They are actually quite reasonable, and their FF program is good too.

LAN is okay-ish in my experience.

With regards to LAN and QF talking - they tend not to be so good c.f. other partners (e.g. AA or EK).

"Congratulations"

Not dumb questions at all! And in a perfect world it would be simple, but for some reason the QF/LAN systems do not bond well. I have attempted everything. The seat maps and selection on those tran-pac codeshares just do not work. Even the staff at the premium hotlines cannot do it - they each get access to only partial seatmaps, and those selections do not stick. Trust me I have tried so hard :)

Getting back to strictly thread topic, I always make sure the AKL-BNE or SYD-BNE sectors are QF code, and sometimes I can get the SCL-AKL or SCL-SYD sectors on QF code also. The final flight that will get me to P1 however is a LHR-DXB-SYD-BNE BNE-MEL-DXB-LHR trip I have coming up. Haven't worked out yet which will be the exact flight that is the ONE, as I will add a couple of small domestics over the next few months, but rest assured all I will be having a champagne to start that flight! :)

We will look forward to the report - and celebrate with you. :)
