Qatar Airways status match to Virgin Australia

A few including myself have wondered if there will be a soft landing for those of us who have acquired status with QR considering the lack of travel opportunities in at least the year ahead.

I came across this and it seems quite possibly not.

Does anyone know if I can use Qpoints to upgrade someone else or only myself?
Qatar's website says you can use Qmiles or Qcredits to upgrade a guest. Not sure if that means they have to be on the same flight at you or not.
Also found this page for the best uses of Qcredits. Seems Qatar is a bit tricky about the number required for redemption, always leaving you with spare Qcredits. There isn't anywhere in the world that you can upgrade for 20, 30, 40 or 60 credits exactly. Always numbers like 33 and 39.

Not sure if this has been mentioned earlier in the thread.. I just completed my first QF domestic flight (SYD to OOL) crediting to QR since the status match and happy to report that I earned 5 Q points and 105 Qmiles on a cheap red e deal fare.

Flight was on Saturday and transaction posted Tuesday.

Wasn't expecting it but a nice surprise- interesting to see other experiences.

Thanks for that.
Very interesting as I thought the QR terms were quite clear about Dom flights not earning anything

Thanks for the report. That seems to be new - previous reports have indicated that definitely no Qpoints earned on QF domestic flights.

It's also interesting because QF red-eDeal fares are generally not eligible to earn either. Do you know what the fare class was?

I wonder if/when we'll get an announcement from Qatar Airways about this change.

Thanks Blackman, if this continues as I suspect it will, the change in QR rules will make it quite possible to retain our QR status via flying QAN domestic.
Ready to fly internationally with Qatar the following year.
Maybe not a complete waste by them as most suspected.

The Privilege Club site is still saying they will only credit flights which are part of an international itinerary.

Thanks for the intel. How was the lounge check-in and experience travelling as a Qatar member?

It may as well have been an international flight. We all lined up at "passport control" with our declarations and Id's and waited to be allowed into QLD.

Here's hoping they simply haven't updated the page yet..

Was a V- class fare..

Lounge check in was fine. They had someone downstairs checking boarding passes first and then the proper checkin upstairs.

I watched one of the Sydney Real Housewives get turned away so that was my bit of entertainment.

Business lounge was fine- they had an attendant handing out yoghurt, museli and small plates of scrambled eggs from the servery and it was possible to order eggs benedict as well.

Flight itself was uneventful but I was probably one of the few people who was left with an empty middle seat and my bag was the first off the plane.

Overall very happy.

If this continues to pass as a meal service on VA business then I don't think many freshly minted QR plats will be staying..

Served this afternoon BNE to SYD

A reasonable person would conclude that it won't. There's plenty of notice and information regarding disruptions to normal services due to COVID-19.

I think the lack of lounge is now more an issue for VA and the new QR plats.

Some Silver ended up getting Platinum. 😆
That's pretty amazing that some, even just a few, maybe just 1 person was Qatar matched VA Silver to Qatar Platinum.
Clearly after matching so many maybe they got lazy & silver looks like platinum......nice cheeky win in life!

I got gold for Plat. Going to try my luck checking if I can be upgraded. Mrs Mac received Plat for Plat

After politely querying why I received Gold instead of Platinum, I received an email today congratulating me on being a freshly minted QR Platinum member. I can't help but wonder if living in Victoria and not being allowed out of my suburb has helped!
