Qatar Airways status match to Virgin Australia

After politely querying why I received Gold instead of Platinum, I received an email today congratulating me on being a freshly minted QR Platinum member. I can't help but wonder if living in Victoria and not being allowed out of my suburb has helped!

A reasonable person would conclude that it won't. There's plenty of notice and information regarding disruptions to normal services due to COVID-19.

I think the lack of lounge is now more an issue for VA and the new QR plats.

Not so sure about that. It wouldn't have hurt VA at all to offer prepackaged sandwiches, cheese board or even at least a savoury packaged option in business.

Also if VA weren't so stingy they'd provide their economy pax with bottled water or sealed cups instead of FA's wearing no PPE pouring water into cups and handing them out. Yes I know money is tight but it seems so miserly.

Regarding lounges- Brisbane ground staff said they'll definitely reopen soon but finalising covid safe operations for the lounges. Specific mention was made of them working through whether to prepare dishes in house vs supply packaged etc..

No argument that VAs current offerings are not cough, especially in J, and they could do better. They normally do but it's a temporary thing. There's plenty of information about it. But if they don't match the QF offerings asap, then as you say, the new QR plats/golds will head on over to QF for a look-see and they may not come back.

I never got the card either, but figured that the status showing in the app would have to do IF I get to use the status for travel purposes!!

For Australians in Australia, it's impossible until the border restriction is lifted because you can't earn Qpoints from domestic flights.

Hence the reason I expect QR to extend in some fashion for Australians/NZ'ers if the timeframe becomes unattainable due to covid19 restrictions otherwise the value gained from the original status match PR exercise becomes counter productive, a total waste of QRs time and effort and we will think negatively of them. You never know. I think they will come up with something if enough push it. I only gaining a few here and there and we can actually travel, work or leisure.

But they busting their cough with the Aus flights and running them at a loss to improve position and market share. I read once they need to fill 80%+ across all seat classes to male money to Aus.

What at they now for down there? 50% of int flights? Good on them if so!

Australia will always be waiting for a lot of things...QR extension have to be to at least mid 2022 to give you guys a full year to get the 300.

Update on my experience with Qatar status match, I took advantage of that offer as a VA Plat back in May. First biz trip here in Nov/Dec and booked as QF and showed my digital Qatar privilege card to get priority check in and access the BNE lounge. As a compare to VA, just as nice lounge and service so far. I have applied for QF status match to Gold and looking forward to moving on from VA.

Is there any problem showing your QR digital card that shows Emerald Oneworld and walking into a lounge with your lower (silver or bronze) status and QF FF number recorded on your QF BP???

Just wanting to know if a lounge dragon will try pull me up and says it not eligible or some reason why this is not permissible.

Do QF staff inspect all passes on entry or is it mostly done by scanning your BP or FF card like in the VA lounge?

Unfortunately, yes. There's a good chance you'll encounter an issue, despite it not being prohibited under the T&Cs of QFF.

I'm flying Qantas this coming weekend as Qatar Gold & fully expect to have an issue at the lounge.
Rather poor that some staff unaware of the rules when this nothing new.

I took a day trip to Melbourne with QF. I have absolutely no status with QF but got in by showing my QR card in Apple wallet. QF number was added to my booking though so I can get the points and credits. Its great that QR will cover me for lounge access until middle of next year and hopefully I can manage to get that QF gold match as well.
