Yep, but have now lost the PE down to Sydney. Would much prefer to be on an A380 than a 744 for SYD-HKG. It was already 744 back and I've put in for J upgrade for that flight back as it's overnight. I'm making the most of my gold status while I've got it by trying my luck at upgrades.
I'd accepted the SYD-BNE leg as Y but now to find it's Y in both directions it's a bit rude.
We are booked 13/11 QF8 BNE - SYD, QF127 SYD - HKG and returning 18/11 QF128 HKG - SYD arriving 19/11 - at what stage are QF likely to contact us to arrange alternative flights BNE - SYD (and will we be upgraded to J on the now-domestic flight)
Like to add my vote for this being a great move. Bit of a downer with the knock on effect with HKG however, most would probably fly CX anyway.
what do you think?
Dunno Smit0847, that's why I asked.
Considering I booked the flight specifically because it had PE and I paid for that PE leg, it now seems a legitimate question to ask considering none of the alternatives have PE. I guess the other alternative might be a refund or compensation for the decreased service level.
I'm not being argumentative - just asking what I think are valid questions...
what do you think?
I expect you will either be offered a downgrade to Y for the dom leg or a refund if that is not suitable. Given how many people will need to be reacommodated it's extremely unlikely you'll be upgraded to J.
What is the connection time in SYD anyway? I understand QF8 is CONSTANTLY late on the BNE-SYD leg and that theres a good chance you'd get moved to a normal dom flight (and be seated in Y) just so you dont miss your SYD-HKG flight.
QF will be contacting affected pax in due course - you cant expect Red Roo to contact you the day after the announcement just because you want a free upgrade.
Hi
First post!
I need some advice: have booked an AA award BNE-MEL-LHR return for next March/April with the old timings in mind. Obviously we now have the choose of sending all day in the Flounge (if it's open) or looking for award seats on a later flight from BNE to reduce connection time. But coming home, we'll land in MEL too late to get a connecting flight home. I had already booked the 9am MEL-BNE flight assuming a 5:10am arrival into MEL, and now we'll be arriving late the night before, I assume (hope) I can keep that flight booking and just go to a hotel near the airport for the night.
Does anyone know if this is what happens with overnight connections, and whether the fact that it's an award booking makes any difference? Also, will our checked luggage remain at the airport overnight? I know this is how JAL does their overnight connections at NRT en route to Europe.
If anyone knows I'd appreciate some help.
Thanks
Thats the current timetable, they will need to change more to fit it all in. Be interesting to see how it all pans out, especially with the wing spar fatigue checks not being mandated for the 6 yearly inspections.
On a more practical note to frequent flyers, goodbye to the last tag flight, even if it was from BNE.
How bout a 'world-class' service to Hawaii
Why is the DFW service only 6 days? Run out of aircraft?
I am interested to know what lounge will be provided from customers travelling in First on this route. From a ground services stand point, Los Angeles has a far better premium traveller proposition with a fantastic First Host team and (soon to be) amazing lounges.
Whilst I like the change of schedule to QF9/10, I am disappointed for BNE that they have lost an international flight (even if only one-way).

Lets hope BNE is not going the way of ADL and PER.

What about a 744 BNE/HNL/SFO vv service departing in the am (JQ & HA are red-eye flights), arriving HNL late pm then continuing on to SFO late pm arriving in SFO the next morning.

It wasn't me, just someone who looked like me!I think we will have to cancel your visa waiver for entry into Queensland for having such audacity to suggest that might be the outcome of Qantas's law of diminishing returns
