SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Bazzi more info pls? Comm tix or rdpt tix? Seperate bookings each sector or both sectors on 1 booking?

I don’t have a contact for you in KF nowadays but I would be calling again and forcefully request they reinstate your J booking - I assume you have tix # from your original confirmed and ticketed booking.

if agent you speak to cannot confirm your W/L ask to speak to Manager - keep politely asking until you do get Manager on the line - don’t wait for email or call back responses you will need to be pro-active here.

I also don’t see why you should have been slugged for new seat allocation when change was necessitated by equip change - I would be demanding refund of that fee

Apologies CE, I’ve missed your post.

Situation finally resolved after 2 very stressful weeks and multiple calls. After the first three calls to/from KF, we received notification that the waitlist was cleared and to confirm online. Logged in to see that only the first sector LHR SIN was confirmed, SIN SYD still waitlisted 🤦‍♀️. For a brief moment I thought that it was the second sector that had been cleared but I was unable to confirm the flight so another call to KF only to receive the news that no, the second sector still waitlisted and yet another reminder about the waitlist clearance times. I asked how when this was a married segment that only one of the flights was confirmed?? No answer but an offer to follow up and a return call (didn’t happen)

I was finally able to submit an email through the previously unresponsive feedback link with the opening line ‘how does a confirmed booking become a waitlist booking?’ and a closing line of ‘not the standard of service we have come to expect from SQ after 40+ years of patronage’. I attached the original confirmed itineraries and within 24 hours I received notification that the waitlist had cleared - not sure whether that was just coincidental. Logged in and both sectors confirmed, quickly selected seats and printed the itinerary. I made a follow up call to KF just to be sure that everything was sorted ✅

Apparently there are lots of notes in my partner’s booking about the issue and the various communications and I’ll be gutted if they decide to upgrade her to F as an ‘apology’ ☹️ though I am absolutely certain she wouldn’t accept it.

With regards to the change in metal on our SYD SIN flight, in the midst of all the other drama, I was surprised to receive a call from SQ with an apology for the change and told that I would be refunded the cost of that exit row seat - so we’ve ended up square.

Off to FRA again Mon - 238-26 - beds aren’t supper soft as we all know so out with the ‘RooFlyer’ patented Kathmandu blow up mattress:

But this hasn’t had a run since pre-Covid and getting it out I noticed this on end:

I hadn’t seen this before so thought I should test to make sure it still holds air:

Who said the ‘17yo old kid’ who comes in and works each Fri was ‘nigh on useless’?

(I do say that in jest - he is a fantastic, gifted young human being - how we can get him each Friday is our fortune and a whole nother story but way OT) - anyways mattress passed the test 👍

I will be flying SQ212 SYD-SIN J in less than 2 weeks after more than 3 years not flying in J (or F), I need to start ordering food. Has anyone tried BTC from SYD recently? The range of BTC for lunch is small and I don't know if the SYD caterer will cook well, or should I just stick with inflight menu?

- Barramundi with Jasmine Rice
- Grilled Beef with Peppercorn Sauce
- Roast Chicken in Wild Mushroom Cream
- Salmon in Wild Lime Butter Sauce
- Seafood Thermidor

The Inflight menu is:
- Veal Osso Bucco with Saffron Polenta
- Steamed Barramundi Fillet
- Lamb Rogan Josh and Gobi Matar
- Peri-Peri Chicken with Bean Stew and Roasted Potatoes

Has anyone had recommendations based on experience?

I will be BTC for SQ328 SIN-MUC as there are lot more variety in the BTC options from SIN.

I noted that '1 season use' before, and @lovetravellingoz kindly pointed out that it wasn't a durability thing :)

I find the Asian cuisine BTC to be inauthentic and would not recommend.
Which is the Asian dish in the BTC list given? From BNE most BTC options are Asian but I have found some very good even if they aren’t authentic.
Mind you when working away I would nearly always have a hot meal for lunch that I had cooked myself. It was always a curry either Thai or Indian. The Asian medicos that tasted them were impressed even though they certainly weren’t authentic.

The Bak Kut Teh - moderately inauthentic
I'll look up the other on
The problem with inauthentic meals is while they may be tasty it leads people to erroneously think the dish should look and taste like that when it does not.

The laksa in SKL is without a doubt inauthentic and not just by a little bit. Tasty but inauthentic

The satay is authentic

Though I doubt I have ever seen 2 laksas look the same.
Was the same with my curries. although basically the same curry they always looked different.

I think it would be a minority that think a dish should look and taste the same everywhere. And I would think that especially applies to Asian meals.

There are differences/variations, however the SKL version is not found anywhere else especially in places where locals go. Maybe that makes it unique?

And I would think that especially applies to Asian meals
Most people have an expectation of what an iconic dish should be and have an understanding there will always be variations - which makes it interesting
There is also no rule as to what it must be. However within the variations, there is authenticity.
I would say having eaten these two dishes multiple times in multiple places, they really not a close facsimile of any variation I have encountered. They really are an outlier in terms of authenticity

The other one is the "fish Ball kway teow soup". Normally these dishes on the streets are packed with flavour and does not have a fishy taste
The BTC version had a fishy taste (major issue), was very lacking in colour (minor issue) and most of all flavour (major issue).
Also it was presented in a shallow dish whereas these are normally eaten from a bowl. (minor issue)
I understand cabin altitude plays havoc with taste buds, but I dont think that accounts for it.

I consider the idea of BTC to be a service item which aims to bring authentic (and in many cases iconic) dishes to 39,000 feet. Champagne afficionados obviously know their champagne and SQ caters for that. Similarly, SQ BTC is trying to cater to foodies who know their food. So when a named dish is offered, it should be as authentic as possible

Done!

In less than 5 mins I got ‘this is an automated message’ we will pass on your kind words to the crew and their supervisors. This motivates them to keep doing a great job.

Re:the non-alc drinks - someone will be in touch to discuss soon

They are sone powerful bots or speed readers!
So.. re the non-alc drinks

I got a response saying thanks for the suggestion and will be passed onto beverage manager. Did not have the feel of considering suggestions I had researched. No we will keep you updated
So - will go nowhere.

For ‘me hose ‘ nay-sayers’ amongst the AFF throng who post that it is a waste of time sending feedback pls see here images of wines on offer and lunch menu in MEL F SKL 👍

You’ve just proved feedbacks are worthless, these are not F lounge wines and not even J lounge wines. In fact SYD F still seems to have better selection even after the fake upgrade in MEL.

Here are the wines in SYD I’ve posted couple of weeks ago.
