We have a Suite/J booking 04/04 SQ232 SYD-SIN-PEN and waitlisted for the same flight on 03/04.

I'm not holding out much chance for the waitlist to come through, but at what point in time does it lapse?

Could it come through the night before, or even closer to the flight?

twice i've forced the issue either an hour beforehand, or at check in, saying hey you've got empty seats here, and i've got a waitlist, can't you clear it, and both times been successful.

deka2 I have had waitlists clear o/n and woken up to confirmed flts day of travel I desired - although this is rare. Indeed I wanted to bring forward PVG-SIN-MEL on Feb 11 this year - F WL confirmed o/n on 9th - I woke to confirmed WL on morn 10th for 13:30 dep PVG - and when I boarded I was solo F pax!

I have never forced issue as dd has described in previous posts - for SQ to succumb to that type of WL clearance quite unusual I would have thought

BUT - Bear in mind final decision on last minute WL clearance is basically decision of office at port of departure - they can and do make last minute decisions on WL clearance.

I have had instance of calling SQ MEL office - (airport not city) - and seeking WL clearance day prior to dep - but never on day of travel - hope this info is of benefit.

Thanks both for the advice
If I don't hear anything I'll call the day before. The extra day away would be a bonus.

Don't be afraid to call KF in SIN on +61 2 9359 0203 and just ask Rep to check booking and see if they can shake the trees and conform WL for you - sometimes they can - sometimes they can't - certainly no penalty fo asking. If it is multiple sector booking R eps can also see if married sector quota already fulfilled - if it is you will find it tough going - if single sector WL there is a tad more flexibility - but call and ask KF call ctr Reps always your best friends.

forced was probably too strong a word.

but if there's an empty seat and you're prepared to give up your BTC, there's not much reason for them not to let you on i reckon (yes could be oversells in other classes etc) but you're freeing up space on subsequent flights so i like to think of it as a win-win!

And in the "so far ahead you can't even see the taillights" department, I've booked for Feb next year in Suites.
SYD-SIN-FRA-JFK return (and then down to MCO in Delta first yet to be booked).
It's a long time off, but having just gotten off a jaunt to the US via NRT, and endured the incredulous jibes of my colleagues, I'm enjoying the personal satisfaction of knowing I'll once again be cosseted all the way while they claim they are making better use of the time travelling Y and spending a couple of days working the cricks out of their necks. HA!
Cheers,
Peter

Peter I share your first world problem too. Many folks cannot get their heads around the joy of travelling in style so no need to mess with their minds.
It is ok to keep the Krug, Dom , caviar and vodka to yourself.

Hi Peter, what award chart does this fall under? (How many points?)

1st world problem  - what to do? SQ PEK-SIN-MEL alternatives:

1. 06:30 dep or so for airport in morn then regional J PEK-SIN dep 08:55 then layover 6hrs so plenty time TPR then New F SIN-MEL dep 21:45 so basically sleep only but I will get to exp New F

OR

2. 14:00 dep or so to airport in aft then R PEK-SIN dep 16:35 so full Suites exp then 1hr layover so virtually no TPR time then Std F SIN-MEL definitely sleep only

6hrs may appear too long but I still have $500+ Changi $s to spend an hour or so at pool T1 will knock a hole in that - then of course there is pre dep drinking / dining TPR - decisions decisions ...........

Are you a morning person? If so go for new F if you can easily find ways to whittle away six hours ;)
