Do believe there is a slight difference between WP and P1.

Of course. That difference is reflected in the benefits offered. But that doesn't make it a new membership level. Maybe a sub-level.

I think once again we have a rift forming due to the difference between what the black-and-white says versus what it really appears to be (or how it seems to operationalise) in real life.

I fail to see any difference. P1 provides extra benefits within the Platinum membership level. Being given a new name does not change that reality. It is not a new membership level but it does provide extra benefits in operation. There is no dichotomy involved; it is not a mutually exclusive situation.

Look at the page I linked early. Click on Platinum benefits on the left side of the page. Platinum one is listed under the platinum heading.

If you want to look at operation and reality look at the platinum one card. What is the main compliant - It looks exactly the same as the platinum card except for some barely visible writing.

And neither is it connected to CL, I've many a time sat next to a CL in the front of Y, with an empty/not full J cabin.

Upgrades are 90% of the time give for operational reasons, with pressure for seats at the lower level, pushing the top tiered flyers through to an upgrade to free up seats.
Order of preference is clear: CL; P1,WP,OWE. Sorry to tell the WP's but you are not the top tier FF's in QF eyes.

Isn't there a few different levels/ratings for CL .......I.E. CLP1, CLVIP, etc,etc

Seems most of us are a level lower on the totem pole than we think we are;)

I'd suggest that those who are willing to pay points for upgrades trump anyone wishing for a free upgrade. In fact I would say that 90% of upgrades are given to those who offer points in exchange for the upgrade.

It is also worth mentioning that I've always known that people who get 2 or 3 or 4 times the status credits I get, have received more benefits than me. I did not need a label to know that fact.

For me this was obviously the case well before P1 and even Altea.

(back when most of my SC earn was from QF marketed flight.)

And most WP's know this is the case Feper, and are happy to run with what QF is prepared to offer them for their loyalty.

However, by your order of preference, I am sorry to tell YOU, but YOU are not the top tier FF in QF's eyes either. However it would appear to be YOU who has a problem with the benefits that QF affords P1's. Always wanting more hmmm?

I will admit that the vagaries that surround the opup issue confound me at times. After 7 years of loyalty (WP and SG) I have never received an opup (and accept this for what it is-purely at QF's discretion), yet my colleague who made WP for the first time ever last year was afforded 3 opups on his next three flights after achieving WP, and has had a further 2 opups since then, all on flights that we have both been booked on to travel together and with the same fare bucket.

Does this annoy me when I see it happen? Sure. I wish that it would be me for a change.

Do I stress about it for more than 20 sec and have a tanty demanding that it should be me, or the system should be changed? No, because it's QF's system to run as they see fit and I wish my colleague a great flight.

My statement was to do with order in the food chain when it comes to OP ups, CL are not classes as frequent flyers, RM for my company is CL and would be lucky to make WP in a good year. But he controls the travel budget so QF entice him with CL. CL is not achievable by any amount of flying.
As far as FF go then yes it is undisputed that P1 is the top tier in QF FF.

it is a fact from talking to QF Trolley Dolly's that due to the high number of WP's on any flight when they read and note from the passenger manifests that they only look for CL and P1 these days.

Well naturally, I was simply pointing out that upgrades don't have to be given just because there are free seats, it's only when they oversell the back ;)

And I'm pretty sure everyone here knows the order already, you might realise that if you read more than this thread. However, just because you're the top dog, or fairly close to it at least, doesn't mean that you and anyone else with your status could prop up the airline if they diminished WP benefits and WP's left.

trolley dolleys? gosh thats nice of you *sarcasm*

and talking to them makes it fact? fantastic source ;)

WOW, what a post, is the term trolley dolly truly offensive? Lets compare it to the term Lounge Dragon that get used frequently in other posts.

And yes talking to people who are in the job does make it a fact.

Trolley Dolly is at the very least a sexist term from a bygone era, which considering the political debate for the past week seems out of place in society today, while Lounge Dragon doesn't refer to a male or female in a misogynist way, but conjures up the idea of someone fiercely guarding the entrance to the lounge.

yes its offensive, its sexist.

and talking about pecking order, there would be no harm removing your lounge access, you would still be flying qantas as long as your RM is happy ... you see you might br a Wp1 but the rm pulls the strings here so you, your colleagues will still fly qantas.
