The COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Australia has begun

ACT is looking good with 50% of 16+ with at least 1 jab. However apparently about 10% of our numbers are actually regional NSW who have been vaccinated in Canberra, so not quite as good as the numbers indicate.

How long till some of the ACT numbers reach over 100%, I wonder?

It’s called taking a little ownership of fate and being proactive. Honestly I am almost in agreement now with whoever posted saying this forum has just become a perennial bunch of whingers… I get the experience here in AU with the vaccine rollout has not been flawless, by any means - but sometimes I feel people need to take some initiative, putting some effort in and start figuring things out for themselves

Yep. I was a late addition to 1B. Got an email, straight on the phone to work out how to do it. Had to drive half way across Sydney but had it done within 48 hours. How? Because I pulled my finger out and did the right thing.

Like l have said before - vaccination hubs need to have opening hours 24/7/365 until we get through a large chunk of the population (supply permitting). Bring in the military to help (like the USA). Then it should be a case of, rip the band-aid off like the UK.

Rocklea Showground Mass Vaccination Hub in Brisbane is averaging 1200 PER DAY. Sorry, not good enough.

There is an old Masters near me (Browns Plains) that has been sitting empty for years - this would be a perfect Mass Vaccinated Hub.

It's interesting how some figures put NZ ahead of us for vaccination for percentage of the population. Whilst that may be true by a little bit for fully vaccinated, when it comes to those who have had just one dose we are streets ahead of New Zealand. We have multiple times the percentage of population who have just had one dose. If people take their second AZ when it comes due we should quickly overtake NZ and get well ahead of them for 2nd doses.

I have no doubt in the next weeks this will happen.

It is now 12 weeks since 2A's started on their AZ and most of those who jumped in at that time will be getting their second injection soon.

Now we have a lockdown in SA, everyone is complaining they can't get a vaccination appointment before mid August for AZ. 🙇🏼‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Not sure those complaining are trying hard enough (or at all). My in laws were in the anti AZ brigade until very recently, this morning FIL advised he had booked in for his first jab this afternoon, MIL advised she would book in for hers soon. An hour later she was booked in with him. Both were jabbed at 1530 today. Amazing what an outbreak can do to change people's attitude!

I wouldn’t say most - there was just a trickle to start with. While theoretically you could get it from early May and Mr FM and I managed to get ours the week before, it took another few weeks to really get going. However there will be a steadily increasing number of 1b and 2A getting their second AZ and of course it’s pretty quick for Pfizer people to get their second shot, so I would think 30 to 35% of 16+ fully vaccinated by end August. Over 50% with a first jab.

Fantastic. Where did they get in? And agree. I havent checked availability for ages but Marshall did say today that you could get bookings in next few days which of course unleashed the procrastinators ire.

On the NYT vaccine list Australia has given 40 doses per 100 population and NZ 29.They are not even close.

If, if, if. NZ are using Pfizer, with only 3 weeks required between doses and no hesitancy over AZ this seems more likely wishful thinking.

People who have had their first dose of AZ only need a second dose, whereas NZers who have had no dose still need two doses. Also in NSW they are being encouraged to bring the second AZ dose forward.

Our Pfizer supplies are ramping up so I do think we will soon be well ahead of NZ on second doses.

The Feds refuse to publish the numbers of how many AZ and Pfizer have been injected.

However I think that the graphic below reveals that there is a big bulge of second doses for those that have had AZ (ie in the main people over 50) still coming. ie Second AZ doses only started quite recently.

The younger age groups have proportionately had more second doses than the older cohorts (see graphic at right), which as they have mainly had Pfizer makes sense.
.
AZ started after Pfizer, and also with most people likely to stick to 12 weeks for the second dose (apart from say NSW)

Now some may opt out of their second AZ dose, but I also think the Delta Outbreaks in three states now will see this that were hesitating swing back somewhat.

So over the next 2 months I think that the second dose rate will surge quite appreciably, and by then the greater supply volumes of Pfizer, and Moderna too, will kick in to ramp it up further.

Thoughly sadly rather than being at whatever our rate is for VMax (ie as some will refuse, or cannot be vaccinated) in Oct, it will be more like NYE unless supply is ramped up further. Due the AZ hysteria some people will wait till late in the timeline to get Pfizer rather than AZ, and their holding out keeps we as a nation behind where we need to be.

If Oct had remained the date for VMax then the current Delta Outbreaks would be doing less harm than they are and quite possibly lockdowns would not have been required, or at least restrictions not as severe.

I’m late to this discussion, but…

I’m astounded by all the people here who, on the one hand are saying hurry up and get vaxxed, and on the other hand saying the booking systems are fine and people just need to try harder to get vaxxed.

Maybe it’s my inner process engineer but any process has scope for improvement, there is no such thing as good enough. The fact that it’s taking anyone more than a couple of minutes to sign up for a vaccine appointment is a failure in my book. Given that this is a frequent flyer forum where people learn the devious mysteries of dealing with poorly formed IT, multi-national phone trees, Byzantine Ts & Cs etc. etc. Just because some of us have found it easy, there is massive evidence that many people aren’t.

I'm my world you have to design a system for the least capable user; and whilst this is a problem that is evolving we haven’t really seen any evidence that we are moving beyond ramshackle bootstrap-system.

There should be no excuse for having to ring round different clinics and different channel. It ought to take no longer than 2 minutes to find an book any available nearby slot. We should actually have priority for priority groups and actively finding them and inviting them.

The government has (almost) everyone’s details through Medicare, most people have My Health Record - we could have followed the UK model and be calling people in for their shots.

We could have people in high streets with tablets signing people up, going into high risk workplaces, pubs, anywhere.

The system isn’t working until booking a shot is as easy as it needs to be to get everyone vaccinated. (I was trying to come up with a user apology like as easy as booking a table at a restaurant or as easy as calling an Uber but even these would exclude too many users)
