The Qantas new bag tag test - how long will they last?

So the wearer of this tag will always get that second look.

Well it’s true, ever since people started harking on about how row 4 was only meant for WP and CL’s I always look up to the overhead bins and take a peek at the various tags :p

I did have a look for the missing piece in my collection (other than the leather CL tag), a Gold QF tag, but the only one available was going for $25 and I’m not stupid! I see just last year one went for $0.99 so I’ll hold out hope I can complete my collection soon.

LOVE the description on Ebay...... should they have also used the abbreviation "DYKWIA"???

Qantas Platinum Frequent Flyer Baggage Tag
Be the envy of everyone at the airport with this Qantas Platinum Frequent Flyer Baggage tag. Recognised throughout the world, this tag makes your bag stand out from the crowd and easy to spot on the luggage carousel.

This is the top tier frequent flyer status available within the Qantas FF program and is not only hard to get but hard to maintain unless you do some serious travel. So the wearer of this tag will always get that second look.

They missed one very very important thing in this eBay auction...

DYKWIA???

Just like the lady I saw in the MEL J lounge last year, with one of the clear plastic conference-ID holders in a lanyard around her neck, proudly showing nothing but a WP card (Assuming hers).

Still not sure why :)

Could have been a 'trophy' from her most recent kill of an endangered species, such as a WP with full enhancements.
She could quite possibly wear gold cards for earrings- as for where she keeps her bronze and silver :)

That's already been patented by pinappleskip!

I was talking to the person behind me in the check-in queue at PER on Sunday morning and we were discussing QF in general, NGCI and new bag tags. He showed me his 2 bag tags and both of them have gotten wet and his name and contact details are now smudged and the bag tags are almost useless for visual identification purposes.

I was grilled by the check-in agent at SYD on Sunday night why I was not using my new bag tags.

NGCI wasn't operating at BNE on Monday, so my OLCI BP backup saved the day.

The tag is still attached ...

If the system is down at the gate then no-one is boarding as none of the pax can have their BPs scanned.

I realise this is the wrong thread, but don’t they mark people off on a clipboard or something when that happens, so would the name on the card be enough to board in such a case? Wonder what slip of paper they’d give you to show cabin staff :p

on my flight where the computers were down, they also collected all the boarding pass stubs to mark people off. I'd say they would need some proof of a ticket as anyone could try and board too

I guess if the system went down it’s unlikely you’d have managed OLCI and be planning to use the member card anyway, but it does raise some interesting issues.

To not manage OLCI would mean the computers would have been "down" for hours ... and nationally/globally! I wich case, boarding PAX would be the least of Qantas' worries ...

Has NGCI been installed in BNE?

I assumed Groundfeeder meant he OLCI’d but then couldn’t use his membership card to board, but as this is a bag tag thread colour me puzzled too, as I didn’t think BNE would be operational for a while. Certainly looked a long way off at the end of December.

I guess, so you could OLCI and get to the airport to find the system had then gone down, but the gate agents would probably have a print out of who was to board, and the card should then be enough to prove who you are.

They have an area boxed in near BNE QP counter which may be the site. I couldn't see any NGCI bag drop areas tho.

I was tempted to use my QP card when boarding but thought it may well b*gger a sensitive system as I had OLCI BP. The FA said she thought one could but wasn't sure.

You can scan you card if you have done OLCI. I usually do this in SYD and have done it once in ADL
Next Generation Check-in frequently asked questions

Can I use mobile or online to check in, then use my card as the boarding pass at the gate?
Yes. You can choose to check-in by any of the check-in methods available to you and then use your Qantas card to board the aircraft. This includes ports not equipped with Next Generation Check-in technology.
