Anyone want to buy my boss? He has pretty much run out of brownie points with me after being 90 minutes late for a lecture he was due to give because he didn't put it in his calendar.

Were you a listener at the lecture? Or were you meant to give the lecture and he substituted for you?

Just trying to work out why the brownie points.......

I thought this was the good boss that fought the good fight for you, or is this another boss?

Because I organised for his lecture to be delivered on USB to the appropriate room and gave him all the details about where he needed to be when he finally got here, and all I got was a sarcastic "I thought you would have done something". And yes, this is the same boss; he has to keep me on so there is someone to blame when he stuffs up (which is often).

Does he happen to lurk on AFF? :-/

Didn't know that a condition of employment in the academic recession was to assume being a doormat.

More seriously, in answer to your question, no. I'd be happy to take his spot after I submit my thesis, but I suspect I may not be compatible for research area, plus all that stuff about having enough publications, a track record of grants and so on and so forth.

Besides, I'm organising enough here about a couple of courses, plus experiments, plus my thesis.......

He's just special. Ah well, will all be forgotten by tomorrow.

Good luck with that thesis! It's worth it in the end :D

If I have to barrack for an AFL team then it's the Crows. But even I think that the lead item on our news being Taylor Walkers knee surgery is just a little pathetic.

Also pretty poor of AFL referring to Powers supporters as feral. Surely that title belongs to Collingwood supporters?

They're both feral.

Just priced up a MH J fare, CDG-KUL-PER vv and it comes in at a touch over £2,000 if you can get the promo fare. That's not too shabby. Ponder......... if only I had a reason to go to Perth and didn't already have that trip booked!

Meh! I decided a phd was a load of cough when I was in the middle of preparing a paper on my topic, for an international conference, that ended up being published in an international journal with a impact factor of 0.822, and they decided to kick me out. Now, sure it was my fault for not doing the reporting required but still...

Plus of course, having a topic on naturally occurring stuff didn't really fit when I moved to a job that involved artificial stuff.

I think it depends on your work area. A Phd is not that important in business consulting but a higher degree is (Masters/Hons etc).

Well that's true. It's worth it to be called Dr though :p and in medical research (which is me), it's fairly essential.

Yup. Although I've had an article published in the Medical Journal of Australia without one. :)

Agreed there's a definite hierarchy.

There's too many degrees in underwater basket weaving etc

I like Revenge on channel 7. But this celebrity splash is such cr#p I was moved to call channel 7 to state just that. I was on hold for 10 minutes!

Inspired a little by watching Les Mis, and The Voice, I searched out the Susan Boyle audition singing "I Dream a Dream" on Britain's Got Talent to show my two youngest girls today. They loved it :)
It is an truly an inspirational piece of television. There isn't a lot of commercial TV that falls into this category.
