It actually came up in conversation with a friend today and he posed that question to me. I could not answer it as I am usually a very shy person and I could not possibly ask a lady out I do not see often but have had some interraction with them.
.

Perhaps you could firstly interact on Facebook or similar to overcome your shyness.. ;)

Um. The BRAC gene is apparently also present in men at risk of familial prostate cancer. That's all.

Apologies Pushka, they don't teach it in medical school ( yet). It appears to be of little relevance overall in the pathogenesis of prostate cancer eg. no preventative prostatectomies for gene carriers.

I don't like surprises but not sure I'd have genetic testing either.

It is bad enough getting Indian spam call centres on our land line. Now I am getting Chinese language spam calls on my mobile. Twice in 2 days now. Obviously I don't understand them. Except for Ni How (sp)

Anyone know this number?
+852 00999999

The first time it came across as blocked but this time as a number.

Except for Ni How (sp)

你好
Nǐ Hǎo

That is the common Pinyin spelling. The tone marks on the top of the letters indicate prounciation.

(and my Chiniese is very bad :( :()

Ni Hao Pangyao Ni Hao...

Also say "Bu Shi"..which is NO or "Zi Jian" for Bye Bye..

Tying in English does Mandarin no justice :-|

Sometimes when things go south, they end up going north.

Flew QF BNExSYDxMEL today and due to a tight connection my luggage didnt make it to my MEL flight, when I landed in MEL I turned on my phone and had a SMS from QF saying my bag didn't make it, but we will deliver it. saw the ladies at luggage services, they organised to deliver it home, and hey presto all sorted. No standing around waiting thinking will my bag ever come off.

Bag delivered a few hours later, all peachy keen.

Proactive customer service at its best - I wonder what the same experience would have been like with a LCC - Jetstar/Tiger?

Unlikely to be speaking Mandarin if actually located in HK... Just sayin'

It seems my 7 years of avoiding a dentist may not have been my best move.

I might as well get my next pay sent to the dentist

I have no idea what they were speaking. The only words I heard were NiHao (and the rest was one long mass of words) - maybe even double dutch! :)

Not as unlikely as you think.

Since China took hold of HK, the prevalence of Mandarin has increased quite a bit. Of course, since not all the population has been "replaced" since the hand back, many people can and still speak Cantonese. But the younger ones and those in business are likely expected to adopt Mandarin as a lingua franca.

"Ni Hao Ma" is Mandarin; in Cantonese it would be "Nei Hou Mou" (or however you would Romanise that...)

I just find it annoying that I keep my mobile phone number strictly for family and friends and now I've got foreign call centres calling me in languages I don't understand. I think I need something stronger than Goodbye given its twice now in 24 hours. I pulled out the land line at home for this very reason.

I had the same problem with an unlisted number. I explained the number was on a 'do not call list' and they asked me to read out the number to them... claiming their computer systems randomly generated phone numbers all day and they couldn't see who they were calling....
