Erk, I you've got a bit of time make sure you get a JR rail pass, good value!

I'm only in Japan for a week & most of that will be exploring in & around Tokyo.

When I was there in 2011, I did a day trip on the shinkansen to Hiroshima.

I was very impressed with the trains over there.

Oh well, onto the next World Cup as we haven't qualified for this one

Not that I really care but I thought we qualified for a Brazilian for next year's World Cup already.

Or do I have my teams & competitions mixed up?

I was severely out numbered in my mealroom last night - it was filled with soccerheads.

After 17+ years of QFF........my luck has run out.

QF621 delayed, delayed then a lounge call for Plat only flyers to approach the counter to get shifted to QF623........great seats gone and now seated middle seat next to a bright orange monster. Forget about arm rest etiquette........ I can't even see it:shock:

What time does the alcohol start to flow on Dom flight?

When I was in Japan, we caught 7 different trains, all connections, to get from Hiroshima to Mt Fuji (the other side, not the popular side you can visit from Tokyo).
The maximum variance in actual time to timetable for any one of those seven trains was about 45seconds. Un-bee-lee-vable. I could never try anything like that with trains in Sydney.

The other anecdote I have was using our Japanrail pass to catch a Shinkansen from Kyoto to Tokyo (a 2hr 20min journey), we went to the ticket gate and asked for a ticket on the next train, "Sorry you have just missed one train, you will have to wait for the next one".."ok, how long will that be?".."Four minutes".

With the Japanese English the next train is the one just arriving or at the station.Going to Tokyo Disneyland we asked the Station master which train to catch. As one was then just pulling in we went to get on-he comes running over-No.No the next one.

I love the Japanese railways & their way of life. I'm looking forward to coming home via Japan from America in February. I just wish that VA or one of their partners would fly direct instead of needing to go via SIN on SQ.
It'll be chilly - also, rail can be expensive but there are some good options for visitors.

I love Japan lovely people really helpful.
I'm going snowboarding with the family over Xmas & new year couldn't believe my luck when I found 4 VA upper class to HKG available with points so I booked straight away. Then when I went to book 4 return economy flights from HKG to Sapporo I found out it was $1500 each !!! It's only a 4:30 flight :(

"What do you mean I cannot check this at the gate?"

I had to change trains at Shin-Osaka and had seven minutes to get to the new platform. I had a very heavy case and just missed my connection, like you it was only a few minutes for the next Shinkansen train.

I loved leaving Tokyo JR station, when the train arrived they would let people off, then the cleaners would get on and the train doors closed. A few minutes later the cleaners would get off, line up along side the train and bow to the passengers waiting to board.

Serfty will be happy tonight, Hawks over Bombers comfortably - 40 points at the moment at the beginning of 4th quarter. I've backed them to win by 30, so looks good

Arrived yesterday at QT Hotel, Surfers Paradise around 2pm.

Saw the cleaners washing down an area of the driveway and there were cones up restricting access.

Find out later that they had a jumper from the 21st floor at 11am.
Had that at the CP at West Palm Beach Florida and it wasn't pretty as he was still hanging in the glass in front of reception as we went to breakfast.

Any thoughts on how to get Qantas to resend the tax invoice/receipt for a booking. It didn't get sent to me and multiple requests to be sent again via the website have resulted in deafening silence. Domestic QF flights so I don't need the itinerary I need the receipt to prove payment.

In the past I have found the FF email address got quite good responses.

I've also been able to have it resent by calling in and asking. It comes via e-mail as text (so not the PDF you usually get), but it does the job.

I called them. Just got the itinerary. The CSA said that was the first stage and the receipt would follow. Didn't happen. I've used the tax invoice option about 5 or 6 times on the website - using variations of my usual email address, the email address in the booking, changed the booking email to my normal email and for the first flight box tried variations of QFXYZ, QF XYZ and XYZ. All with no emails forthcoming. The main hassle is I booked this by getting a voucher and then booking the flights, so explaining 2 items on the credit card statement for proof of purchase will be a bit complex.

Really kicking myself for using my work email in the booking instead of the email in my profile.

I'll have to have a look. I visited in 2011 for a week.,I might be able to add something there. The Railway Museum is a must see complete with modern simulators. At one stage, I'd had more time on the Japanese simulators & the B737 sim at Darling Harbour than at my Place of Employment.
