Definitely. One man out of the game, yet a whole team does it and the coach gets to negotiate the outcome.

Asada and Wada are still to play their cards.

They will come in for sure.

I would also think that Worksafe may at least investigate.

Sorry if this should be somewhere else but I have a question.

Does anyone own a business that plays music or radio in a waiting room or place where staff or clients can listen to it. If so have you been approached by someone from APRA/AMCOS recently or ever and asked to buy a licence??

Someone rang up our reception yesterday asked our receptionist if we played music (she said yes) he said you need a licence I'll send the forms.

It looks legit but seriously you need a licence to play an iPod or listen to the radio???!!! unless its in your own house.

(Rotten) Apples and (Rotten) oranges, isn't it?

Benny wasn't being injected with performance enhancing juice by Woosha; he was (allegedly) partying with some of Perth's seedier luminaries off his own bat.

Of course neither are quite what you would want your own children to emulate.

I got a bit sidetracked, but meant to ask if you'd consider buying your current place. It seems rather cheap at $88K (IIRC). It rather tempted me as I've been considering property in Brisbane.
This would not be $88,000 although I did not ask. The owner is considering selling. Ray White Paddington would more than likely have the listing but that is not guaranteed either.

The one we mentioned for $88,000 was the one that will be run by the hotel and you get a fixed income.

A bit too old to be buying now....

Yes. Apparently. Theoretically you are doing a public performance. But when you get the forms I'd do a google on the name to check it isn't a scam. If its true then I'd say it was random bad luck you were contacted. Same if you play music on telephone hold although I've never heard anyone get caught.

It is a radio station that we play apparently that needs a licence. Starts at about $75 for 1 source in a small area and goes up to about $1900 for something the size of Bunnings.

Unbelievable !!! How many places play music it's not like we are a nightclub you can barely hear it

Yes I just saw that too. They must be going through the phone book.

I know the big gym chains had the same problem a few years ago. For their classes (in the case of fitness first) they now use covers rather than originals due to the extortionate cost. Not sure you'd need a license for the radio though, however I'm no expert.

Though what can you get for 88K these days? Even at 4-5% return it seems reasonable..

We were contacted several times a few years ago and I refused to pay. The local hairdresser said she had. I haven't asked anyone else since.
We don't play music in the waiting room now , just away from the public - don't like most public radio station music anyway.
Apparently it is legit. I was having a rant about it in a bar and someone at the next table explained that it was and it made slightly more sense the way he explained it.
They haven't bothered me for a few years now - guess I must be coming up for another turn?
I don't know how enforceable it is. The fees supposedly go to the musos, but how you could allot that fairly I wonder.
I certainly wouldn't get my money's worth with ABC talk radio.

Maybe it's iPod shuffles for all staff for Xmas presents this year?

As for the Bombers, no finals ... with James Hird, SWMBO reckons he may have received a "Tap on the Shoulder" from Tania.

Did they have that stereotypical telemarketers accent & ask for your credit card number for the 'one off" deal ??

i don't think you'd have to pay if you were listening to ABC given it's a public broadcaster? as for commercial channels or other stations playing music subject to royalty, any fees collected for royalties are divided up by the relevant music authority. not for us to decide what is fair. it is for the artists to negotiate.

APRA|AMCOS : Music in Business

I do a lot of work with indie & unsigned bands. They can join APRA & get paid money according to how many gigs they play. In radio (community & commericial), the station needs to keep a count of what songs they play so the artist gets paid. And yes, I too have heard of shops & the like getting calls (and in some cases) visits from APRA about the music they are playing in a shop.

SWMBO is fuming - reckons the Bombers got off lightly in comparison to the Crows last season.

So why is it not double dipping if the radio station has already paid the royalties?
Are there reciprocal obligations with overseas organisations?
If you have your music played on the radio and not a member of APRA you get nothing?

Glad to see the honest salt of the earth business owners are not taking advantage of anyone else to benefit their business.

Could you PM the building/location to me?
