Glad to see the honest salt of the earth business owners are not taking advantage of anyone else to benefit their business.

Could you PM the building/location to me?

Lol oh Medhead what a bitter & twisted world you live in we are talking about turning on a radio nothing more sinister than that

Though what can you get for 88K these days? Even at 4-5% return it seems reasonable..
You don't get a lot for $88,000 but I remember looking at the ad Mal sent me and the return did not look that good considering the yearly strata payment.

It has never been a secret. I live at the Mill hotel in Spring Hill. But I will PM you my apartment number.

Current lease expires end of September.

I'm sorry if you don't like the contradictions in your various positions being mentioned. Nothing bitter and twisted about that, simply noting that some business owners are possibly not as honest as they would have us believe. Artists earn a living from their performances. I just think they should be paid for their work and not ripped off. Or would you be happy for artists to enter your business and just steal something?

AFF members should consider chipping in & buy the building.. Good investment?

So why is it not double dipping if the radio station has already paid the royalties?
Are there reciprocal obligations with overseas organisations?
If you have your music played on the radio and not a member of APRA you get nothing?

The way I think it works is that each country has their own version of APRA. I know of indie artists currently performing in the US, they'd have to put their claims in with the US version of APRA.

Some of it has also to do with the labels so the money might go from APRA to the labels who then pay the artists. But like most things with music, we aren't talking a lot per song. If someone hasn't registered with APRA, they get no coin as is my understanding.

Yes APRA is genuine.I did not pay.And no Medhead I am not inconsistent as I want everyone out of my pocket.
Play music over 30 years old.No royalty payments required. That is the law.So not screwing some unfortunate young artist.Perfectly legal.

I just like a level playing field; you know everyone paying their fair share rather than some people subsidizing everyone else because they're an easy target that abides by the rules. I've never downloaded any dodgy copies of any music in my life always happy to pay iTunes. Do I think I should be able to listen to it while I work because I enjoy it and I've paid for it yes. Do I think people come and see me because they might catch a bit of Radiohead in the background no, so are they really adding anything to my business not really.

They are paid for their work already - by the radio station. And I don't rip them off, thank you , I just don't play them any more.
If I like a piece of music enough , I will buy it and play it for personal use.
So, no theft or dishonesty that I can see.

I think the operative words here are personal use. If a receptionist at a medical centre has a radio station on in the background as they work, that's more personal use than a gym that uses songs as part of their business. I notice that there's a lot of gyms now that have screen based TVs or entertainment systems, possibly to try to get around these changes.

theres a difference between playing the radio (or whatever) for your person use only, and having the radio (or other music) as entertainment in your business for clients/customers or whatever. it's only the latter that is subject to licence.

Screen based entertainment requires a license apparently and it's the medical centers etc that they are after now not gyms

So how does the tv get round it?

The union representing these artist should turn up at every building/factory work site.....nothing but radios! I think it's only fair that members of one union - pay members of another.
