Are you saying mum is always right?

In my case the answer would most likely be a YES!

So very true, yet we still try things our way

...

My boss has a variation on that which he adopted for our company motto; it reads, "If at first you don't succeed, you're fired!"

Alright, jokes aside...

Actually, one of my supervisors does have a framed quote on his desk, a little bit true, "The feet you step on today may belong to the legs that lead to the butt you need to kiss one day to get what you want".

A variation of the pictured quote which I prefer is by Sir Isaac Newton, or Albert Einstein, I think: "Insanity is defined as doing the exact same thing again, but expecting a different result".

I want to know about the condition of his Sunbeam Alpine sports car?????

A sentimental value to me.

Just saw the car for 5 seconds Al Jazeera Newshour on ABC News 24 of all places.

It has copped a fair whack to the front left.

Best wishes to Richie but we'd be really pleased if this meant a change in the commentary guard on Channel 9. They really need new voices. And Ian Chappell who has forgotten all his history and has become the most conservative of all.

Happy 40th birthday to The Sydney Opera House. May there be many more.
You have given great pleasure to lots of people and have helped fill many an airplane.

If you lie long enough does the lie become the truth?

Yes if you believe it to be. But lies can be easy to spot and can unravel at any time if someone cares enough.

For example. I could say to someone that I saw you at.Roma St station today. It is believable until someone checks with you. You could deny it and the person still (somewhat) believes my story. Then they ask what you were wearing or what time etc etc and it becomes harder and harder to keep the story up....

I believe there's an "adage" that runs approximately parallel to this, known as, "History was written by the winners."

Just like many countries were "discovered" by Europeans even though they were already settled by the indigenous people. That's what it says in my Australian History book.

Of my version .... "If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you!"

Need to settle a little argument between a friend and I.

First, who here likes panna cotta? I know myself, if there is panna cotta on the menu, I find it hard to pass it up for something else on the menu, and if there is another dessert on the menu that looks good, I'm in big trouble!

Now... assuming you select panna cotta, how do you tell if the panna cotta is the right texture?

Personally - and from watching the TV shows (not that they are necessarily authoritative) - panna cotta should be creamy but still have a gentle wobble as you gently lift the spoon to your mouth. It's not a jelly so it can't be too firm.

Opinions?

yes kind of... but the 'wobble' can be almost unnoticeable. I've had some quite firm panna cotta (which autocorrect is insisting on calling panda cotta??) at some very good places in Italy (assuming they're the experts!)

it should be firmer than creme caramel for example.

not that it really matters how it comes ... it's delicious!!

I love cracking the top of the panna as well.

If you lie long enough does the lie become the truth?

If you lie often enough it doesn't mean it becomes the truth, or lies may be easier to tell but it doesn't mean that it becomes the truth, or words to that effect.

Yes if you believe it to be. But lies can be easy to spot and can unravel at any time if someone cares enough.

Very interesting view point Mal, but you can lead a horse to water but it doesn't mean that it will take a drink.

that would indeed be a very strange panna cotta!!

going back to anat0l's original question... I have been in a traditional trattoria where the panna cotta on offer was made as a single large portion... dinner plate size... and that was sliced up in wedges when ordered. so it can be quite firm.

Ian Chappell has always been conservative.

Creme Brulee methinks

Ian Chappell has always been conservative.

I don't think we are talking about the same man.
