Sorry but everyone has some sort of belief.for the majority of circumstances, beliefs driven people exercise those beliefs for good. but when they don't, and they refuse to accept evidence based arguments to the contrary, it can become a problem.
Evidence based? Is that like singlet, shorts and thongs should be an acceptable form of dress standard? Or men and women are equal. Men and women are not equal. They never will be equal. Far from it. But that does not mean that it is OK for men to mistreat women.
A couple of things about your points.
There are many good religious people. Don't include the fundamentalists as there are fundamentalist non religious people as well. And some just like to use religion as an excuse for their own benefit such as the Crusades, Spanish inquisiiton. There was not a religious bone in their bodies.
And religion does not need to adapt to accept what some people think should be acceptable today. I like it that my religion has not changed for over 2 thousand years. And I will only continue to support my religion on the proviso that it does not change.
