I have a golf bag which has a club cover on top. The airline has ruined more than 1 of these to date.

The golf bag is still in good condition and a friend gave me another brand new club cover before last trip Boxing Day. Luggage was delayed by MH last week and finally received my golf bag but club cover now has holes in it and the zipper is broken. End result is club cover is useless.

Short of trying to fix zipper I need to buy another golf stand bag and the cheapest I have seen is ~AUD85 for the same type of bag.

Looks like a claim to MH for another golf bag but not sure I will get very far.

Travel insurance is hopeless as excess is AUD200....
I found a hard shell container for my husband's golf bag/clubs. Op shop. $10 - after twice having his expensive carry bags wrecked. He thought it was absolutely hideous (it was!) - but Sod's Law dictated the blasted thing lasted for years! I was starting to call it 'The coughroach' because nothing would kill it. we could have lent it to an airport & let trainee baggage handlers test it out! He finally put it out on the hard rubbish and was quite offended when it sat there for over a week.:D

If anyone in Melb has problems with broken zips there's a guy in Camberwell called Walkalong. I've used him for years. When you go in there's always a pile of damaged suitcases awaiting repair - I think only rips and new zips though probably not wheels

What a small world, my mother swears by this shop... so much so, that she used to bring items from the states all the way over here to be repaired, then take them back.

We check out of the hotel today, store luggage (16 pieces) and spend the day in NY. Collect luggage and go in limo to JFK. Arrive at check-in T7 and discover that we have an extra back-pack that doesn't belong to us  Tag has some other guests room number on it !
Mini-me pipes up "I told you that wasn't our bag when we were getting into the car"
I quickly checked the bag and discovered wallet, car and house keys, iPods etc.
I called the hotel to let them know (turns out the guest and porter had reported it missing) and they asked me to find somewhere to put it for pick-up later eg the CX F check-in where I was standing.
Realizing that this was not likely in a million years I went downstairs to the BA baggage services explained the story and they were very helpful and agreed to take the bag and tag it for
collection.
Meanwhile this is all eating into my lounge time :!: Also the hotel starts getting clever and are telling BA that a pax arriving later at a random terminal will go and pick up the bag for them
Hopefully the bag gets re-united with the owner and we have learned to always check our luggage when it comes out of storage.

Whoever at the hotel who is managing this is an idiot. Rather frivolous attempts to resolve the issue and placing you not only at a massive inconvenience but also at security risk.

Definitely an idea to check bags you have handed back to you. Guess you must have been in a hurry or didn't watch the porters load the bags in the limo, as usually a bag that doesn't belong to you sticks out like a sore thumb (unless they are one of those common looking ones and you haven't adorned it with decorations or distinguishing features).

Also a lesson to listen to the young ones once in a while ;) :p

As for eating into lounge time, unless it's the VS Clubhouse or possibly LH F lounge, you're not missing out on too much :)

It was a pretty random grey back-pack and each of us (adults) assumed that the other one had bought it. We split up today for some last minute bargains.
I totally agree with you about the hotel management. At times I thought I was dealing with Basil Fawlty
The entire process took almost an hour as the first few people I asked told me to turn it into the police
I might email them when I get a chance.

And how shockingly sad was the news that Brynne and Geoffrey have split - what was that saying again - 'When poverty walks in the door - love flies out the window!'

I think there are several types of poverty / splits - some are more convenient than others - not sayin' it's the same circumstance, but remember Eileen Bond ...

I might have to put your tin hat on, but what's that saying about a fool and his money :?:

Did you consider putting it in a taxi to the hotel (payment on arrival)?

Sure, still risk of loss, but rapid return at the hotel's cost, and you could always note the taxi number etc.

No I didn't but that's a good thought. Once I had spoken with the BA baggage team (broad Brooklyn accent) she took pity on me and I felt confident that they would assist.

Been home a few hours since QF8 dropped us off at BNE......the temperature is beautiful after the last 4 weeks of freezing!

You've missed a couple of scorchers. Generally the last few days indeed have been quite comfortable.

As you can tell, the Mexicans are experiencing quite a bit of a heat blast at the moment. ;) :p

Absolutely no insult intended to those who are currently or potentially being affected by bush fires - please stay safe.

We haven't had a decent thunderstorm in Sydney yet this summer.

They were saying today that lack of rain in the northern half of Australia (or should I say, no monsoons yet) is why this heat band is circulating Australia. This current heat wave is what Sydney and Brisbane experienced a few weeks ago - it moved west to Perth and then across to SA and Vic. Adelaide doesn't cope well with heavy rain. Not raining yet but would be bliss if it did. It's like scorched earth here

Good lord. 45 forecast tomorrow. 46 Thursday.
