First day "back at work" (in the actual office) and I get the first big curve ball of the year.

Why oh why do I keep subjecting myself to this industry?

Thunder is just starting to roll around Melbourne. I probably wasn't going to sleep anyway. *sigh*

It's too hot to sleep. Tomorrow is going to be a long day!

Edit : I'm seeing (what I assume to be) lightening through the blinds

Is it managed by the same agent? If so, perhaps you could switch.... if you don't ask, you won't know! Worst they can say is no. If it is the same agent and they say no, you could point out the 2 units and show that yours should be billed at less due to less features.
Same agent. I dont have time to move that quickly even if it is only next door.

I dont mind staying in the rundown apartment. The rent increase is the straw....

Rather appropriately thunder did roll Melbourne in the big bash, ending a nineteen game losing streak.

Landlord wants to increase rent from $275/week to $285/week for my rundown apartment with no airconditioning.

The apartment next to mine is recently refurbished and is being listed end of this week for $285/week with all of this included!

Although I think the listing could be wrong showing it as furnished as the unit opposite is listed at $295/week and is unfurnished. Makes my $275/week feel like a rip-off.

It's a tenants market at present, at those rates I think your being gamed, tell the landlord yes if they put an aircon in now, reality is it will cost cash but improve value, the real cost is in the operation of the thing.

It is not the end of the world. I can live without airconditioning. Summer is almost over.

I am also a landlord and have had a good run with long term tenants that have not asked for too many things.

I'd do anything to wear a jacket right now...now we have dry lightening strike fires, once of which was reported by a pilot who saw the strike and fire start.

One of my female colleagues probably is wearing a long sleeved woolen jumper in this weather. I asked her recently in similar conditions if she was mad & she told me that it was ok, she was wearing a short sleeved shirt under it.

She says it goes back to her days as a bus nechanic. I know that in some places, you must wear long sleeved everything & in others, bulky gear is essential. But to be wearing a woolen jumper?

No sure it made it across this side, though I did hear one if my dogs whinging around 2am...

That's interesting as my cat woke me up yowling for no reason I could see about then too. He doesn't normally do that.
I went outside but no evidence of major lightning tho.

Change units :)

I agree - tell them you'll increase if they install a/c by lease end otherwise you'll move to the other apartment!

They want you to wear pants to work, again!? How rude.

haha, not quite Edwin Poole :p

IT? Nothing wrong with the industry.

Unfortunately cannot say the same for those in management positions.

My particular line of work is notoriously unpredictable, although this is compounded by poor planning / scoping / management by certain individuals with higher pay grades than me...

It's getting to the point to of being ridiculous that I can't organise anything without work getting in the way.

You must really love your job.

Don't get me wrong I have to work but my life is more important.

For those of us who do enjoy our jobs, there is often very little differentiation. So we get the best of both worlds.

Train derailment in Sydney. I didn't do it - I'm in San Francisco. I've seen photos. I don't know what happened apart from what I've seen in the media.

Just got a text and an email from 3K advising me that due to civil unrest I may wish to change my flights and they would be happy to help, very nice of them to do that when the flight was yesterday .
