Now going to be without power for 28 hours. Not going to be fixed until 9 am tomorrow. Going to be 36 tomorrow. Making an insurance claim as things are already warming in the fridge and will be chucked out.

Goto a hotel for the night.

You need to have lots of expensive things in the frig/freezer to get over the excess. When I went through the bushfires, I had a few sides of smoked salmon and fillet steak etc etc in there ;)

Might be time to check-in to the Hilton for a day or two. Visit the EL. Dinner in Gouger Street. :D. Is the CBD power okay?

I will soon find out what is happening at our place just up the road from you. Mrs B. will certainly ring shortly as she gets home from work. Sounds like a BBQ or Feathers for dinner. Maybe TPND for the cheap Tuesday pizza if they are open.
Boris (do you know Boris?) has been closed all day due to power outage.

It's funny how you do the expensive shop on the Saturday before a power outage

I work in the CBD and you would never know there was any sort of windstorm in Adelaide.

I would love to understand how people have replaced the use of laptops by using smartphones instead.

I have been without laptop for 2 days and using the smartphone for more than 20-30 minutes at a time is driving me nuts.

After 12 months of using iPads and iPhones purchasing my MBP was a brilliant decision. The others are ok when you just need to do something rough and ready, but MBP is the bees knees...

I have been thinking recently that I must buy a generator for this type of occurance, but haven't had a long power outage or load shedding yet. They are inexpensive really, compared to my insurance excess, which used to be $0, and is now $500, as I discovered when I dropped a bottle of wine on the oven door handle. Glass door shattered, wine ok.

Sorry I can't quote as my laptop has no internet due to blackout. So using iPhone app.

There's no excess on food spoilage due to a covered event so I can claim up to $500. I'd been doing lots of cooking of meals for my husband and son when I'm away in a months time so will be peeved if that defrosts.

The insurance company have said to take photos and chuck out. But to wait until we have power in case our electricals blew out when the tree pulled down the wires. It's just 200 metres away so could have created a surge.

Buzzard, it's like a battle zone. The Council have been busy clearing our street and every corner there are stacks of logs chopped up.

And of course, no wind here right now. As still as. Going to be a black spot of Eastern Adelaide with all the lights out.

Lots of businesses closed. Even servos. Chicken shops. Pizza places.

Glad the wine was okay... Pity about the door :p

New glass door unobtainable, rang insurance co and informed them, they talked about a replacement oven and casually dropped the $500 XS into the conversation. Didn't continue with claim and found a secondhand oven with same door on ebay for $100.

Unplug as much of the power as you can, when it does come back on its likely to be surging and unstable initially, and that can do a lot of damage.

Thanks Markis10, I'll do that while still light here. At least we have gas to cook a hot plate tea. And then we can all sit in the dark although the lighted kindle might come in handy. Dammit, there's cricket on.

CBD is fine. We have cats so can't go away. A shower would be good though. Cup of tea. Cold milk.

Still, it could be much worse. My niece has been on evacuation standby for the last 24 hours because of bushfires. They have a young baby, two dogs and a cat.

MacBook Pro? I know very little about apple products. I am looking at it in Google right now and struggling to understand. Is it like an iPad?

My new Asus computer I bought at B&H in NYC which came to $475 on my Amex bill I saw on sale in Myers today for $899!

No, it's a laptop with keyboard, touchpad with finger gestures, SSD, retina display. No touch screen anywhere to be seen. I've got Office and nearly the full Adobe suite on it.

Well son has just bought some ice. First thing to get chilled? His beers. He did buy candles and batteries though. My phone is going to go flat soon. Serves me right.

That's a good lad you have there pushka. He knows what's more important. ;)

And you should have stayed off AFF.

Geez that was a line I had to read twice and taken out of context would be tragic.

Good to see he has his priorities right though in the end.

Doubt I could survive without power that long, especially in the heat.

here's hoping insurance comes through with everything promised.

Currently charging up through the PC. I don't care if the PC goes flat, it's just for work. See, he learnt his priorities from me. :p

HVR, yes, I see what you mean about the ice. ;)
