I believe it is for any thread with greater than 1000 posts (e.g. the Amex promo thread). Instead of clicking on "last post" try clicking on "first unread post" - to the left of the thread title.

This handy hint brought to you courtesy of some other poster whose name escapes me.
Thank you,kind sir,for the tip,you're too kind.:)

Call me old fashioned but for those of you in a relationship, whether temporary, short term, or life long, what is the reason behind describing the other person as my "partner"? What is wrong with using husband, wife, fiance, boyfriend, girlfriend, de-facto etc or is that revealing too much information about you and the relationship?

I think it started in the gay community with people who weren't quite ready to "come out"-they could use the term to announce that they were in a relationship but didn't have to reveal the sex of the chosen one.

I am wondering whether the term de-facto is coming old fashion.

Boyfriend/girlfriend really only suggests that they are going out together, but once you start living together but not ready to get married where fiance might not work, partner kind of sits in the middle.

Drinks in Brisbane on Wednesday 20 May locked in.

Turning up on the 20 might still be a problem.

Thanks John for adding it to the OzFest thread, I had thought about posting it but now I can stay away from that thread.

To me partner is such a bland word, more like a cop out, with so many meanings. So is it your business partner, tennis partner, golf partner, dance partner, partner in crime, cards partner etc etc?. It gets extremely hard on the internet where you don't see the posting the comment who they are actually talking about. "I booked a flight for my partner".

As I said I must be old fashioned as I can never use the word partner to describe a the other person in the relationship. It will always be girlfriend, fiance, wife, spouse for me.

No problem. I have also sent Kiwi Flyer a PM....

Whereas I actually like the term partner, and think it's appropriate. I find terms like "spouse" to be really harsh sounding - and almost uncaring in a way. "Partner" sort of works.

I would assume that these days, when someone is dicussing their "partner", it's someone with whom they're maintaining domestic relationship of some type. In the example you gave ("I booked a flight for my partner"), I would think it highly unlikely that the person was booking tickets for their cards partner, tennis partner, etc.

We got caught not so long ago when we were talking to someone and got introduced to the partner and then the other partner.

.... one turned out to be the business partner and the other the domestic partner :!:

Intriguing - I can't say I have run into that situation often! Was there a difference in the way that they introduced the two partners?

I prefer to retain the term "partner" for a business relationship. I refer to Mrs NM as my wife ;) (amongst other things ).

Different times and just introduced as partner though we pinged fairly quickly.

Complicating factor was the one we thought would be male was female and the one we thought would be female was male :!:

I can now hereby confirm JohnK is jinxed when it comes to flight delays. Another one Friday night in BNE.

Of course, the problem may be BNE, someone else will have to confirm SYD is also an issue.

Thanks for guesting me John - the pies were heaps better than the usual fare in the main QP! Still gotta be quick though.......

Just to be different my SYD-BNE flight was also delayed yesterday. :p When I got to check-in I was told that the flight will be delayed 10 minutes. Ended up departing 30 minutes late and arrived only 23 minutes late.

No problem. It was pleasure.
