Low GI is not strictly low calories.
The glycemic index refers to how quickly that food is converted to sugar in the blood.
So low GI is healthier, and hopefully will lead to you eating less, by avoiding the sugar hit followed by you feeding hungry again quickly that happens with high GI foods.

Will check it out on iview. I love the blurb for the show.

ohn Doyle and Tim Flannery's journey through China starts in Beijing. They follow the trail of Australian iron ore, and ask: Should we be more than China's quarry?

Is this meal for dinner too much?

1 pork chop, 1 tomato, 1 slice wholemeal bread, fetta cheese and 3 iceberg lettuce leaves with some olive oil and lemon.

I think somewhere between 500-600 calories or have I got it totally wrong?

Make sure there isn't much fat on the pork chop, I've seen some quite fatty pork at WW recently. Make the vegie more interesting. Add 3-4 olives, and some sundried tomatoes, but drain most of the oil from them, before tossing with the iceberg, and add a couple of mini Roma tomatoes. (Hope you like tomatoes.)

Good luck.

Pork is one of the lowest fat meats that you can eat. As long as you aren't having toast for breakfast and then sandwich for lunch, the 1 slice of wholemeal bread for dinner is well within the limits for a good diet. If you exercise daily, then the bread for dinner is probably well within good diet limits too.

My understanding is, if you have a sedentary lifestyle, best to avoid carbs after 4pm, because you will not burn them off.

IMHO there is nothing better than roast pork with a plate full of super delicious crackling :D:D:D

A really awkward situation this afternoon at work. Talking with my boss about a certain employee (we thought discreetly), but our discussion was overheard by said employee. That employee walked into my office doorway, very red faced, and asked if there was something we wanted to discuss with him. I kind of waited for the boss to say something, but he didn't say anything, so I said, no, I am talking to Managing Director. He then said that he can hear our discussion, and kind of grunted. I said sorry, we should have shut the door.

Tomorrow is going to be interesting!

Was in Rebel on the weekend with Markis10jnr grabbing a ball pump. Son took a fancy to the World Cup match ball, at $179 I found it difficult to appreciate

Yep... juicy moist pork cooked just right and a lovely jus to adorn it.

People with a potential heart problem are advised to have an updated will and details on medical bracelet before tucking in :D

I won a world cup ball with Coke. To my disappointment it wasn't even a replica but the 3rd tier Brazuca glider. Just get the glider. I have played with the actual original World Cup match balls and I can tell you they are great, if the people you play soccer with actually appreciate an over engineered soccer ball but for most lay people as long as the ball is half decent it doesn't mean a thing.

What characteristics of an "over engineered soccer ball" set it apart from any other run of the mill soccer ball?

What kind of soccer balls would be used in professional games in Australia?

Not saying WTF, but genuinely curious...

The world cup branded ones have massive gouges ;)

Dieting is too difficult. Tried something different today.

Dinner had some bread with sour cream (yes I know), 2 carrots and 2 celery sticks with some mayonaise (yes I know), had some grapes, 4 olives and some fetta cheese. And I rewarded myself with a can of coke (yes I know). Trying to work out the calories but I think again around 500-600 calories unless I have calculated wrong.

Breakfast was low fat yoghurt around 150-200 calories.

Luch was 2 small plums, 1 can of tuna (95g about 125 calories) and 1 sandwich with small piece of roast lamb, tomato, cheese and lettuce all consumed separately around 2-3 hours apart and I think calorie count there is around 600 calories assuming sandwich was 400 calories.

So all up about 1400 calories and I am starving. I need to keep this up.

Hi John,
You could have a bit less bread and more varied vegetables, this will drop your overall carbs/calories. You could have some healthier fats/proteins than yogurt /mayo, like nuts/olive oil/flax seed oil, Try some super foods like turmeric, black coughin, garlic, ginger. You will probably be nowhere near as starving, and still be at about 1,400 calories intake per day and not feel as though you are starving.
Then , later, you could incorporate a bit more calorie burn (10 mins walking up steps per day plus 20 minutes walking fast enough to verge on being breathless). Then you could eat 20% more if you are still hungry, boost your calories to 1,700 approx, and aim to healthily lose 2kg a month. And , very important, never get dehydrated - sip water through the day.

A ps for all us frequent flyers, a half bottle of red wine is around 250 calories, but is arguably beneficial.

Note John, I am not a dietician, these are just a few things I have picked up in recent years.
Best wishes mate.

A bit of turmeric mixed with some milk (non-dairy) is good for the liver :)
