Last night's storm was a bad one. A train got hit by lightning, another caught fire & there were numerous lightning strikes of overhead wires, signals etc.

Last night's version of the train I just drove was the service that got hit by lightning.

So far so good tonight. Last night, I ran between 9 & 38 minutes late but at least I didn't get hit by lightning. I did see massive amounts of rain & hail & visibility around 200m at the worst point.

They do studies about absolutely EVERYTHING.

WARNING: If you get squeamish easily do not look down!

I read a paper some years back about testing surfaces in a number of different bathrooms in people's homes where the toilet lid was always put down before flushing and where the toilet lid was never put down when flushing. At the start of the study the bathrooms were cleaned by the research team (obviously using under-grad students I bet but under supervision).

When I showed it to a friend - she went very pale and shortly purchased new toothbrushes, hair brush, comb, soap, make-up brushes etc.

Yes, you guessed it. When they swabbed tooth brushes, hair brushes, basically every item (including bars of soap) they found that there were traces of faeces and urine on every surface in the bathrooms that flushed with the lid up and either no or negligible quantities in bathrooms that always flushed with the lid down.

The concentrations were highest the closer to the actual toilet the surfaces were and the contamination was so evenly dispersed that the dominant factor (other than the lid up) was the distance from the toilet.

So JohnK you can keep the lid up but your toothpaste flavour my well be unique to your diet!
It's apparently bad Feng Shui to leave the seat up. All your good luck goes straight down the toilet.

Yikes, I hope things improve soon.

And all selfish old me can worry about is to make sure that golf is not jeoaprdised this weekend.

It is 2nd round of golf club championships with the last round a few days before I head off to Thailand. Wouldn't want any rounds to be postponed.

Isn't the NBN a non govmint epense ... ?

Wasn't it set up and funded by the government (with whatever budget is afforded to it, with whatever mandate the government grants to it)?

In fact, the government can't (or couldn't) seem to make up its mind whether to rearrange or disband the organisation or not.

Anyway, fact is unless you're in a location where votes really count, you ain't gettin' it fast (pun intended).

just had another lesson from my golf pro tonight - ah golly, what he has done to my swing. He broke down my old swing and is amazingly building a new one, lesson by lesson. I wish I had done this earlier :(

Another update on my friend whose trying to arrange for her son to meet Johnny Depp. Someone in the US, who also has a child with the same condition, saw the page. As a result a university professor in the US has offered to review the case. That's pretty good considering Australian doctors had reach the nothing can be done point.

so happy to hear. at least some hope - go for it

sounds like cough to me. this toilet drama stuff is just great marketting by Johnson and Johnson. the 'hygiene theory' explains why we see so much more asthma and allergies in our youngsters. we need germs to support our immune system. Really - lifting a toilet seat with your shoes is considered more hygienic than with your hands --- at least your wash your hands - when was the last time you washed all that dog poo and wee off your shoes before you sat on the toilet. Really bizzarre..

Mrs. B and I had the train trip from hell on Sunday. Boarding a 4 car once an hour train at Springwood to Central is bad enough as the train is usually quite full (why not have a 6 or 8 car train?) the train was terminated at Parramatta due to another train having mechanical problems. We had to move to another platform to join a waiting train but the problem was it was a 2 car train, the middle 2 carriages not in operation. Not only could we barely fit on the platform there were that many of us, we now have to scramble to the front and last cars. Heaven knows how many were left behind as we all couldn't fit on.
Wait till I see +1's cousin who is one of City Rails top 7 drivers - will I give him heaps!

well actually this morning, after I cleared the poo and wee made by one of my dogs in our garage that I didn't see in the dark. But I always wash my hands before starting to do anything like go to the toilet mysrlf, or eat breakfast :o

There's flooding at Bardwell Park.

Jinxed myself. Line closed at Bardwell Park due to flooding. Offered my train as another option due to closure but was not required. On the way back to the depot, I hit a tree at speed near Summer Hill. Train & passengers OK. Driver drenched by rain. Lucky it was a leafy type tree & not something like a gum. My entire side of the front window was filled by tree.

Because I don't like knowingly touching other people's mess with my hands. It's not actually about the germs. I'm not a germophibe. Kids (now adults) don't have asthma or allergies. And if you saw my house you know a bit of dust never hurt anyone.

As for walking on dog poo. Can't remember the last time I did that.

QF mainline briefly resumed ops to NTL last night, dropping off pax meant for Sydney from the DRW flight, then heading to BNE.

Dust is only a problem if you disturb it.
