Good grief. We need to toughen up. Adelaide has just had four days over 32 and they are banging on like its the end of the earth. Pets warning. Water warning. Elderly warning. Bushfire warning. Enough already.

I dislike the heat but it's not as if the houses have warmed up yet. And it's only going to be 26 tomorrow. I don't think I'll survive summer but it won't be the heat that gets me!

Hecs was a contribution. The current government is bringing back full cost recovery fees.

I don't think it will get through. And that's a good thing.

I think Uni's are specialising too much in the undergraduate years which then requires the staffing of multiple departments. So extra costs.

I attended a pre-season all agencies briefing recently (my first), under the new Emergency Management Vic regime and the interesting thing about heat 'events' is that even not so hot days early in the season have a greater impact than hotter days later on, as people have yet to acclimatise.

My experience, albeit 15 years old, is that there isn't extra staffing. It is all a marketing exercise when it comes to specialising. This was back in the 1990s with the creation of an environment department. Except it just renamed an existing department and added some collaboration from physical science. Pure branding.

That would make sense to rebrand as such but there must be Professors etc in the specialty areas that wouldn't "exist" in a mainstream science/arts degree?

I saw no visible difference in the professorships as such. For example a professor in chemistry continuing as a professor for the new department. Environmental science is really an amalgamation of physics, biology, geology and chemistry. All those professors exist, join together a few subjects and you have a degree in environmental science. Create a brand around that new name. Added nothing but created a marketing ploy.

Because they introduced fees.

That Joe Hockey and Christopher Pyne whinged about.

I feel it my duty to stand for election and do everything possible to forestall the introduction of fees and indeed to end any movement by the federal government to introduce fees

LOL life is full of surprises ... in some cases you don't need to go back decades to see change - Nauru is a classic example :D

A balance view is always a good thing!

Why is modern computer programming so flaky? And they get touchy when you have no respect for them.

"Upload of file failed". Yep that tells me a lot. Can't load photos again from Samsung.

I have been getting that from my laptop on and off for a while now.
