The totally off-topic thread

I have been getting that from my laptop on and off for a while now.
I am going to take a guess and say the .jpg is too big? I was able to upload another photo that was not so busy.

So why cant the error message say "Upload of file failed as the size of the file is too big"? Too hard?

Probably too lazy to program up the exception structure to catch specific errors and report them accordingly. Either that or the component which does the uploading, being separate to the interface component which commands it to upload a file, doesn't throw a specific error message.

Just a guess, but I have no idea which program you are talking about.

I do agree that some programming is awfully lax and is too heavily geared towards everything going perfectly fine, so it leaves a mess when things go wrong.

Why do people feel the need to yell about things that are best discussed in hushed voices behind closed doors?

It seems it is becoming the norm. Shouting in offices, on trains, in shops etc just seems to be rampant at present.

Its like when you create a password and enter in all your info and click submit. It fails and you THEN get the info that a password must contain so many characters, a number and a capital. And it deletes all the data you've just entered. Why can't they tell you upfront what the password must contain! :(

Because they've already posted their most intimate secret on facebook to their 1000 besties and wanted to make sure no one in the world missed their graphic moments.

I am saying no more to not advertise things, and hence kill the golden goose.

But I see people are doing their best to have the goose taken out and shot. Perhaps they don't realise the potential loss to others.

The same can be said when try to login to anything for which you have created an online account. Are you seriously supposed to remember all 123 passwords you need in day to day life and the exact format required for each?

The current CEO of Australia Post seems to have buggered up Star Track as well as Australia Post now. Star Track is now messing up what they were good at.

Try TNT they like losing things; originally had 6 on the consignment only 5 turned up but the online paperwork was amended and only 5 were sent.

They are as bad as each other.

Another rant about Telstra; account is now sent via email; because oh it will save you time; yeah right, but I can't update the address on the bill because my place where the phone is doesn't exist. I guess the only good thing is it saves me the Telstra junk mail.

I get my personal credit card statement via email but the business one turns up after Westpac have already withdrawn the money, yes I do have access to the transactions but it doesn't feel the same.

I have had it with a few other companies; lets fire the mailing staff well we don't need them anyway.

I know. And when you ring up some institution the first thing they ask is your password. My comment is usually along the lines of having too many passwords ruling my life. I try using a similar format. Which is most likely a security risk. But how many passwords are there in our lives these days?

Pushka, I agree with your sentiments. So long as I can remember the password format of each site, I know what my password will be (I have a base password in alphabetical, another numeric and finally an alpha/numeric - only problem is then ensuring the number of characters [min or max] is adhered to in each circumstance).

I use the same base password for all accounts; changing every three months or so.

Also, my Mother's maiden name is used for most accounts as a recovery type identifer. But I do not use it as a general password for online log ins.

It is actually a noun - in normal English it is used to indicate a particular type of inanimate object - most are surprised it would be a surname.

"Driftwood" it isn't but you might get the idea.

I use past car number plates as my base password, with add ons and also regionalisation. For example I use my nsw number plate for my nsw work password.

I have a variation of 3-4 passwords for all my passwords but cant always remember the format required. Sometimes I am locked out and it takes forever to unlock account.

Diners really P*** me off. They make you change passwords every 3 months.I am careful to write down my new password. But then even though I use it I will be locked out.Always happens when I am travelling.
