Not good and what a pack of mongrels to handle it so poorly.
It is less than the best. But I like the pragmatic approach that they will have to pay out the notice period from whenever they finally give written notice.

I'm not silly. Especially as it means I'll be missing out on a years worth of back pay due to them withholding a pay increase all year.
