Agghh, should I spend min 5hrs tomorrow driving Brisbane to Cooyar and back again to attend their Anzac service at which my great-grandfather will be remembered? That's after Mr Katie gets from the Brisbane Dawn service?

Have only just found out in the past 6 or so months, with the planning of the memorial, that great-grandfather landed at Gallipoli in early May, 1915. He also served in the Somme later in the first world war, and enlisted again in WWII. He died in 1945, so my father never knew him, but his widow was alive until my early teens.

She can leave the shotgun and the .22 at home, though :p.

Well in case we can't find anywhere to eat, there's always a paddock and some rabbits to test her ability. I think she'd be much better than me - it's been 30 years since I was a member of the small bore rifle club at school.

Pleased to hear you will be leaving the guns at home !! It has certainly been a terrible week in the Hunter. So glad that we have a rainwater tank. The neighbours water only went back on this morning.

It's the 100 year anniversary - do it Katie, you'll forever say "I should have". I'm going to drag myself out of bed and head to the Gaythorne RSL (and see if my daughter wantst to come) for the 6am service there. Might even treat her to breakfast

It's many a year since I've been to the civilian rifle range at Swanbourne (where the SAS base is) firing the old .303 on a Saturday afternoon. Had my hearing tested a few years back and the first question that the audiologist asked me when I stepped out of the booth was: "Did you do shooting when you were younger?" Hearing in the higher frequency range is shot (err, so to speak). No ear-muffs in those days :-|.

Plenty of popping rabbits with the pea-rifle, as my dad always called a .22, was always fun as a kid.

Yes, I had a 303 many years ago, now just .22's

Should we get a Hunter Valley Wine tour up and running, we can have a Kangaroo BBQ at my place. (purchased from Woolies, not my paddocks) and I have PET rabbits, so let's just leave them alone...

Many years ago after a cyclone we decided that red meat should be Bbq'd within the first 24-36 hours.

Agree 100% with QF WP, Katie - it's a once-only!
Sadly this will be the third Dawn Service and Anzac Day in a row that I have missed - this will be the 5th missed in the last 30 years. :(
The local Aussie bar in NKG (Bluesky) will open at 9AM to broadcast the services and marches, and serve suitable breakfasts.
Breakfast for young Miss at the Rissole, QF WP? They tend to be of the gunfire kind - plenty of rum involved...;)

I liken it too,but an open plan office is not an appropriate location to partake.

Apartment stay cancelled, power restored. Curling up with a glass of wine in front of the TV, life is good :)

I know you have them, but also applies to others: when the power goes out, do the kids go stir crazy (or does it take a while)? :)

I know when I was young, with the power out we'd sometimes play cards near the candle light, but otherwise we were pretty bored. Or, sometimes we had homework to do anyway (at least in those days when almost all of our homework was written on paper).

Our power was out for three nights last summer. :(. Finally it was restored. Went to turn on the tap for a proper hot shower - no water! Expletives then called up SA Water. Seems there was a pipe rupture just around the corner. Went for a walk and found the water repair guys. They were sitting having a smoko. Told them the story of no power, burst into (genuine) tears. They got back to work and fixed it in the hour. A hot shower never felt so good.

It is bucketing in Adelaide at the moment. We haven't had rain in months. Why couldn't it have stayed dry tonight for the Gallipoli campers and those young cadets holding the vigil at the Remembrance memorial.

They were actually not as bad as I thought. We played Trivial Pursuit a couple of nights and Monopoly by candlelight. Worst aspect was not being able to catch up via phone (none have mobiles) or messaging friends. Last night I relented and let them have a 1/2hr Hotspot to my mobile. One aspect that was great was that they were very happy to head to bed early every night and read books by torchlight :)

Sounds like your kids are rather grounded by today's standards

Trivial Pursuit? Good the first few times, but Euro-games are where it's at!

I'll just leave these here for another rainy day PF!
