The totally off-topic thread

When you spend so long composing a comment on a thread that you get logged out of AFF, and lose your comment!!

I got frustrated with that a few times just after I joined, but then I saw the "remember me" box when I had to log in so many times. If you are on a secure PC (not a public PC) use this button when logging in and you stay logged in for ages. I use this feature for AFF and a few other sites where I'm refreshing pages on and off all day.

Finally have telephone service!!
flooded in, no power, 1 tree down out the front, pool overflowed, home alone.....
have gravity feed water into house, the fire going & a BBQ to cook with on the verandah.... What else does a girl need?
hope to be able to drive out tomorrow.
(day 1 - eat all the special icecreams, day 2 eat the cheeses, day 3 - the rest in the garbage)

I'm sure some people on here (myself wholeheartedly included) wouldn't be trashing til at least day 5 ;)

Nice for some, my suburb is not even planned for the NBN yet and stuck with slow ADSl 1

Love sending NBN support emails about when I can expect to come into the 21 century, they have a boiler plated response which tells nothing but waffles on...propaganda

just to clarify, I don't work directly for NBN.

Actually, perpetually ;).
I still get random log outs

Flood water down enough for my Polo to get out (i live in a valley with only 1 road in/out) still no power but heading to work where we are running on generators, now to play catch- up after 2 days off.

NBN coming her every soon to our 4 story building, going on the install next door not looking forward to so many workers climbing all over the building and the drilling noise.

I don't understand why management doesn't see it that way.

Management thinks it's a great idea to have people sitting a metre from each other with the same productivity. There are over 100 people in IT. Not everyone gets along and there are personality clashes. Ask me if I am comfortable sitting next to a particular person.

The company promotes inclusive culture and is quite serious about it. I laugh everytime I hear it.

Not my photos. Hard to believe that hours after these photos were taken at Bardwell Park, I was driving a train through there. If I didn't see these photos on FB or Twitter, I would not have known.

It feels a little bit weird in Newcastle just now. Still many homes (mine included) without power now for ~ 72hrs. The traffic lights on almost every major interchange are not working. The council has closed off R turn lanes at busy intersections with bollards so obviously not expecting return of power any time soon.
I'm thinking if the power doesn't come back tomorrow I'm checking into a hotel. The camping feeling is wearing off rapidly

I'm not a 'survivalist' but occasionally the thought of having your own portable power generator (fridge, stove, some lighting etc) enters my mind.

? Worth it

In retrospect yes but you wouldn't catch me camping in a million years so the chances of said equipment being used would be remote.

Three days' worth? Good luck. You'd be better off saving money to run quickly when necessary.

Even now when you are 'caught out' for some days, you would still not consider having one ?

Or, would you change your mind now ?

I don't have one preferring to continue the assumption that someone will fix the lines for me within hours.

But if I were caught out once - touch wood - I may lean towards having a spare generator - just in case.
