Trivial Pursuit? Good the first few times, but Euro-games are where it's at!

I'll just leave these here for another rainy day PF!

...Start page | Catan.com

(My aim is to increase my board game circle until we are no longer lepers ;) )

Ah, The Settlers of Catan. That game drove me mad at one time at the board games club.

The problem with playing Monopoly amongst the family (sister, me plus our cousins) was that absolutely no one was prepared to sell a property if it gave the buyer a full colour set. No amount of money or deals would break that.

The typical card games played in our family circles were either Crazy Eights, Big Two (quite a few different names and variations) or Cheat. I wish more of my family were able to play 500. I only had two friends circles who could play the game.

Woke up at 4:30 and got my wife and son up, packing them off to the Dawn service at Gaythorne RSL. Just finished watching the Sydney Service and woke up my daughter to watch the Canberra service. Lest we forget.

Day 5 no power, set phone alarm for dawn service... Battery died during the night looking for service... Water heating on bbq for a bath.
Think we will b a few more days. As we only have 80 houses in our valley so low on priority list of Ausgrid.

Another wasted suite last night.

Got upgraded to a large-ish King Suite, and went to the room, flopped on the bed, work up, showered, checked out, and went to work.

Sounds like me tonight at HSW. A 2 Br apartment possibly/probably all to myself. (Sue may get back from OOL at about midnight)

Deja vu.

Another suite (at the other chain). Once again, I barely used the room.

Why do I always get small shoe boxes when travelling with people or trying to entertain, but get massive suites on work trips where all I need is a bed and shower?

Apart from SIN anyway ;)

We just had lightning hit close by and it sounded like a transformer exploded. Now no power, incredible to have another blackout after our 40hr blackout this week.

Feel so sorry for you. Mine was out from 0200 Tuesday until yesterday afternoon. We had a brief loss of power about 1/2 hour ago but it came back after about 1 minute.

Totally over this weather

The electricity gods are smiling on us today, the power came back on a couple of minutes ago.

We felt very fortunate to get power back as quickly as we did this week, being Stockton we were expecting to be low on the priority list.

I am also eternally grateful that I was given a choice of 14 Apr or 21 Apr for my gallbladder operation and I chose 14 April.

Still in the datk here, though we had 7 ausgrid trucks of varing sizes come up our deadend road, fun watching them try to turn around to get back out. At least they are in the area, may have a chance at getting power back on in next 24 hours.

It's the 100 year anniversary - do it Katie, you'll forever say "I should have". I'm going to drag myself out of bed and head to the Gaythorne RSL (and see if my daughter wantst to come) for the 6am service there. Might even treat her to breakfast

Agree 100% with QF WP, Katie - it's a once-only!
Sadly this will be the third Dawn Service and Anzac Day in a row that I have missed - this will be the 5th missed in the last 30 years. :(
The local Aussie bar in NKG (Bluesky) will open at 9AM to broadcast the services and marches, and serve suitable breakfasts.
Breakfast for young Miss at the Rissole, QF WP? They tend to be of the gunfire kind - plenty of rum involved...;)

Did it. Definitely worthwhile, esp. as my great-grandfather was specifically mentioned at length today. My family's attendance (with Little Miss in tow) meant that four generations, from the 87yo last remaining child through to my daughter as the only great-great grandchild there, were there representing him and his legacy. If he had not survived his (two lots of) wounds at Gallipoli, or what he went theough at the western front, none of us would be here.
My father was also happy, as we were the only ones of his children able to be there.

Very much looking forward to returning to Villers-Bretonneux in 2018 for our third Dawn service there. It will be our fourth trip to the Somme since 2003, and the first where we've known one of us is directlt descended from someone who fought there. (Mr Katie does has a relative buried there, but there is some uncertainty as to whether he *is* a relative, and even if so, there is no direct descendency).

More first world problems for me.cant checkin on my VA flight as website still down.Rex wont let you checkin on line when interlining from VA.So more queues to wait in tomorrow.

I resemble that remark.

mrsdoc thinks the hotels do if on purpose!

I fiddled around with the various tabs from the "Sorry it's Maintenance" page on my mobile and managed to book a couple of flights tonight.
Super impressed that I managed to upgrade them all to J as well :D

Finally got to check in.Choice of 9 middle seats or 2 aisle seats down the back.Flying out of MCY I always choose an aisle seat down the back anyway.

Then we might see you there. My bother and I discussed going there Friday as our Grandfather was in the Somme. It is a little complicated though. Anzac Day is my mother's birthday. In 2018 it will be her 90th. Bitter sweet pill maybe.

And her Father stayed on in the Somme after WW1 as he was deployed to War Graves repatriation.

Bindi you have been without power for such a long time now, I will be thinking of you today and hoping that it is fixed soon.

We were so lucky, 40 hours meant it was only 1 full night and the power was back at 6.30pm Wednesday. I didn't even lose the meat in the freezer. I thought we would be low priority because being on the peninsula we are at the end of the grid and there is only a small population here. I was mentally prepared for it, our physical preparation was not quite so good. I will now buy a battery powered radio and make sure we have sufficient 'working' torches, every torch in the house had a flat battery. The gas was still on so cooking was fine.

Good luck today.

We are aiming for the 2017 service at Villers-Bretonneux as my grandfather lost his left leg and 2 of his three brothers in 1917 on the Somme.
