What took you so long? My parents concreted most of our lawns ~35 years ago.

No Way. I'd heard about that sort of thing, always thought they were having some kind of cultural joke!

........no grass to bag- the mower "mulches" cuts up the grass so fine if falls in between the grass stems and nutrients return to grass and fine mulch conserves soil moisture

Over the long term that can present its own problems. We have long used a ride-on mower with mulching blades to cut our near 1 acre laws but the result has been a raising of the soil level over more than 20 years to the stage that the lawn is now about 5cm above the level of all the paved area and driveway. I know it's a 1st world problem but it now means we need to whipper-snip the edges whereas in the early days the mower did a good enough job on its own.

When my mower died about 5 years ago I decided to also retire from pushing a mower. I now pay a bloke to mow, trim edges and take the clippings with him.

It's one of the best investments I have ever made

My mower man hasnt turned up since June last year, no notice, just vanished. We dont own a working mower so I keep borrowing one but its annoying and I'd rather not do it, but it seems impossible to find someone reliable.

I haven't heard it a lot, but would it be a superficial idea - for those who do not like mowing the grass - to rip up the current lawn and replace it with either a synthetic or very low rate growth grass?

The only thing with synthetic is that it is not great for drainage, and probably not for animals either. It probably also looks mostly unusual and potentially unattractive. Finally, in all of that there is a great cost.

This bloke hasn't missed a date since he bought the business about 3 years ago. Very reliable, I'll ask him if he does MEL ;)

I'll send SWMBO down with our spare mower, for some reason she gets a real kick out of cutting grass and would happily spend all day pushing or riding on one!

I think she's weird, I wouldn't have grass if I had my way. When I was younger it was my job to cut the grass, we had a corner block and the nature strips were huge, can't say that I have ever enjoyed mowing since then.

We also have a corner block, with one front yard and two back yards. I want a ride on mower but I'm not allowed :(

It would be an easy fait accompli if a zero turn radius ride on mover just appears in the backyard
Handbags and blahniks turn up not infrequently and sold as a fait accompli to me
