No need to duck. This is unconscionable behaviour from the contractor.Happens all too often.

Yep, outright abuse of workers should not be tolerated. It's a shame the workers aren't allowed to seek another employer though, that is just morally wrong.

And as very loudly publicised, Abuse of foreign 7-11 workers is well known, with the employer (franchisee, not 7-11) often claiming they'd terminate their Visa if they complained. My general view is that if an immigrant is suffering abuse that they didn't sign up to (removing the possibility of sham visa application), then they should be given a few months to find a new employer.

World wide problem in this industry! Organised crime control the job lot.

[h=1]Italian tomatoes the product of migrant ‘slave labour’

Agriculture is widely accepted to be the Italian economic sector most scarred by organised crime, enmeshing supply chains all the way from the fields to the supermarket.

Locally known as the *caporalato, the system works like a 21st century chain gang to procure and deliver the thousands of workers needed to pick and process fruit and vegetables on behalf of the plethora of agricultural businesses up and down the country.

7 Eleven and the LOTFAP and so many others don't believe in the notion of the "living wage". Just wrong.

One of the several reasons why I feel uneasy about transiting through DXB/AUH and using the onboard F bathrooms (when I am occasionally there) which are cleaned by inflight cleaners who would be at a much lower paygrade than the cabin crew

It had to happen sometime I suppose. After seven years here I'm going to put someone on my ignore list.
Can feel my sanity restored already.......

As a member of such an affluent society that we are, the perceived exploitation of workers like this really makes my blood boil. If correct it is so wrong on so many levels, Mind you, it's probably just a beat up by the AWU.

Ducks for cover from the usual suspects............

Fijian seasonal workers told to return to work for contractor accused of exploitation or go home - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

Not just a problem with workers from overseas. Construction workers are often forced to become sub contractors to get work. For example a builder will pay another company $65 an hour for a tradie, but then this company will sub contract out the work for $45 and then this subbie will contract out the work as well. This can happen a number of times till the final sub contractor is getting $10-20 an hour, gets no super and is not covered by workcover.

Looks like we might going to a double dissolution election because of supposed problems in the Construction Industry.
