Depends on which research fad is in vogue. I can remember when two glasses of wine a day were good for providing antioxidants. Now it seems that that is no good. Then there is the research that red meat causes cancer. I do not trust American research because it is dollar and market driven and their research methods are dodgy at best. I was just going on what my dietitian told me last Thursday.

Drug companies are the same. A friend who was a respiratory physician had wonderful overseas trips with just a small time investment required - at most. Very difficult to isolate the effect of that on decision making.

Then there is direct to consumer drug marketing. Trading on people's fear in order to make them request a product they dont need.

There is a very annoying add on the radio where a women who sounds like she is 90, and receives an Iphone thing and a Jane Fonda workout dvd as birthday presents. It turns out they are trying to market an immunisation to people aged over 65 who are susceptible to some kind of gremlin. If I sounded like this woman does at the age of 65 then I would be hot tailing it to the GP to put me out of my misery!

That red meat thing isn't a specific bit of research. It is a classification by the International Agency for Research on Cancer. the classification is based on a wide range of information, not just one research study.

although vegetable fats do have many benefits. But you can't just drink water (low fat, low sugar, low sodium) to survive!

Except Canola oil (used in margarine ) has been implicated via Internet chatter in age related macular degeneration so I have eschewed all vegetable oil products except for olive oil. It's butter for me not that chemically altered canola or sunflower oil or palm oil. ( Though animal fat is implicated too). Not yet ready to give up a tasty beef steak

Ooopsie. Those dratted medical degrees will create a snaffu every time.

Steak - I have no idea why but sometimes the same cut can be deliciously tender, then other times just full of gristle and junk.

What is it with animal farming that creates the difference? Age of stock? Farming practice? Feed?

Why are Costco lamb chops the best chops I've ever eaten? <running away now before I say they cost an extra $60 per trip>

Can also be the breeds and the way the animal is slaughtered. Plenty of our best meat is exported. This isn't a religious bias , but animals slaughtered in the halal tradition also usually contain more micro contaminates like E. coli, and Campylobacter.

Only Transfats are implicated, ie US modified canola. We do not have that in Australia. Australian Canola is high in Lutein which has been shown to help a large percentage of people.

Australian canola could help prevent macular degeneration: researcher - ABC Rural (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

Any diet stuff or just diet tonic water?

I don't mind the diet coke/pepsi max/coke zero/coke light drinks. They are OK. Tried diet Sprite once and it was awful.
I don't like the taste of any diet drinks (well the ones I have tried anyway). I hate the labelling 'no added sugar' when the product uses artificial sweeteners.

See I found the Cascade tonic water rather unpleasant, and found it actually masked the flavour of the gin...

Something I really like about the 5:2 diet; you learn what it feel like to be hungry (not thirsty or bored), and you learn that its ok to be hungry (ie I wont die if I dont eat that piece of whatever right this moment). I'm quite a snacker but I can get through to lunch time with nothing but a cuppa now...

I suppose everyone's taste buds are different. Cascade is the one we are keen on at present though we do use other brands. I don't like the way Schweppes gets very sweet if it is opened and not used on that day.

I try not to listen to what the "experts" have to say.

First something's good for you, then it's not good for you, then it's good for you. And the cycle goes on and on.

Red meat is good for you. Fat in moderation is good for you. Cheese is good for you. Eggs are good for you. Alcohol in moderation is good for you but sometimes a little more can cure many issues quickly. Olive oil is good for you.

Unless of course someone has an intolerance for these things. We are all different. What works for one person doesn't work for another. That's the beauty of the human body.

I've gone to Cascade too. I prefer individual cans to bottles

Shaken, not stirred methinks!

Would be very happy if Hugh Jackman was the new James Bond. Mr Craig - mmm, not my style.
Not sure about Hughie babe but Daniel is getting a bit past it and I thought was looking pretty old in Spectre so would think this would be his last time as 007.

Oh Dame, I am so disappointed to see you are not a fan.
Daniel was old and craggy before he started!

I didn't say Hugh wouldn't be any good - hadn't thought of him really.

Now that Sean Connery is over the hill as far as Bond is concerned .....

Having one of those moments again.

What do you do when you don't know what to do? Nothing?

Sorry can't provide context but don't know how to deal with a situation that requires my attention.

Perhaps just give up. Or at least give in....

As with any issue except marital: logically, devoid of emotion, reduced to its fundamental parts, compartmentalised, black and white.

Last paragraph answers the marital context

:p:p

Or does this post count as ask the audience?

I dunno. Sean still has it I reckon.

Currently reading Casino Royale and find myself enjoying it much more than expected. And yes it is Connery in my head as a picture Bond in the book. Because how could it not be. Definitely going to look at finding Fleming's other novels now.

Ignore it until they ask again. Find another person who is involved on the periphery. Then when they ask again tell them to direct their questions to the other person.

Had that one today when following up an email from 14 March.

I quite enjoyed the books

I have it in iBooks - about half way through.
Funny - we have a bottle of Lillet in the fridge. Never know when you might want a Vesper or two. :)
