Use Chrome as a browser and install the Chrome plugins for Ghostery, FlashBlockPlus and NoScriptSuite Light in an attempt to limit data collection. Also turn on DoNotTrack in Chrome preferences.
Then you can selectively whitelist specific sites in the three plugins for sites you want to allow such as Qantas etc.
Also selectively delete your history and stored cookies periodical.
Thanks for this. Not long ago I made the switch from IE to Chrome, but went back again as I couldn't (easily) block cookies, as in IE, so I started getting ads for thing I'd just bought or looked at on-line. Not having that.
With IE, there is an easy setting where I get to accept or block cookies as they re introduced. I reject nearly all except when I want to do business with them and then for only as long as I need to. I can go in and see the cookies that I have blocked and those that are allowed, and I can release the block if I want or need to.
Is there not a setting in Chrome where I can specify the same thing?
What does Ghostery etc actually do?
