I love my Bosch DW. I was talked into one with a cutlery tray as the top shelf - and after a couple of weeks - I loved it and wouldn't go back to the cutlery basket - a basket does take up a lot of space that now is just plates and bowls and large items !

Not that I am aware of Medhead.

We've had Miele for many years (both here and the previous house). I don't like the one I have at present as much as the one I had before which was actually the cheaper model. Miele have sale prices sometimes and the one we bought before was about $300 off. The installation is really important as in the past we have had dishwashers breakdown because they were installed incorrectly with the outlet hose not higher than the actual outlet and so allowing water to drain back into the machine.

We're looking at the base model on a $300 off deal.
I'm not sure about the outlet hose thing. Our current dishwashers both have the outlet at the bottom of the machine and the connection to the drain is above that point. Of course the path of the outlet hose does go to a higher point that the drain outlet that should prevent back flow from the general drain.

FWIW we have 5 relatively new (<4 years) Miele appliances - dishwasher, WM, dryer, oven, cooker. All of them have had multiply service calls (under warranty) and have been a real PITA. I'll never buy Miele again!

That doesn't sound good. The biggest sticking point so far has been the colour. White dishwasher, what happens if we have to replace our white oven at some indeterminate point in the future. Not sure I should pass on your experiences to SWMBO.

Probably the other brand we're considering. The miele model doesn't have the cutlery tray installed but does have the necessary fittings to add one. Cutlery tray looks like a great idea. But in looking at the various internal configurations mostly it looks like a cutlery tray doesn't allow enough clearance for wine glasses. Our good crystal is hand washed, but the Ikea quaffer glasses go straight into the DW.

We had the base model Miele DW at the last place - we bought it new at the $XX off deal. We had no trouble with it at all. I have a higher model at this place and it's not as good as the one I had before. I don't like the cutlery tray much but have got used to it, mrs.dr.ron. I prefer the white colour and wouldn't have a stainless still one at all as they are too hard to keep clean.
Sounds like the outlet is fine Medhead - it just needs to go above the final drain point. We had a problem where it was not high enough (slack plumber I think) and had no end of problems. The guy who installed the Miele at our last place did a fantastic job.

Hedge your bets! Purchase the extended warranty (3 years) ... IIRC you can purchase direct from Miele prior to the standard 2 year cover expiry.

We have a few miele appliances. All over 10 years old. Never had any problems or service calls. The wm is built like a truck and is an absolute cracker. Maybe the build quality has gone down.

Or the use by date on the complimentary food is just about up!!

Our Miele DW (with cutlery tray - I'd never go back to a basket) has been giving trouble-free service daily for over 12 years, same as the vacuum cleaner. The Miele WM expired after 8 years. Considering the original price paid and the price difference between that and the competition, it was very disappointing. Replaced with an LG with loads more "features" (apparently...).

Miele has those now.

We've lived with Miele appliances in various houses for decades - never had an issue. However, this recent mixed batch of goods have all been pure lemons. Miele has been embarrassed enough to extend the extended warranty on the MW/dryer for a total of 8 years... reckon I could end up getting a decade.

Often wondered if they've changed their supply chain to the lowest bidder approach...

The day when they trot off to the "white goods" resting place will be a happy day.

We bought our Miele DW, WM, DR when renovating our first home in 1990. We took them with us (family of 5) as we moved houses, finally retiring all of them in 2014 (so 24 years' service with no service calls except to have a Miele person reinstall them at every move). The electronic controls on WM and DR died within weeks of each other (so perhaps the result of a power surge) and the DW developed a motor problem. WM and DW were replaced with current models in 2014.

At work, up till 1991, on an average every 6 months we used to burn out a Hoover WM and the drum in the Hoover dryer would disintegrate. We do 3-4 loads per day six days a week of cotton drapes and towels. Because the home appliances were working so well, I bought Miele WM and DR - the base models - for work in early 1991. They continued to work faultlessly, the only call-outs being if we jammed the pump or penetrated the internal hoses with a stray surgical instrument or errant needle left in drapes.

In 2014, we remodelled the laundry section at work and replaced the WM with the latest model Miele and the DR with a matching Miele condensing DR as it couldn't vent to the outside. The work DR came home and continues in service to this day (so 25 years old and going strong).

Our current home was originally equipped with the cheapest appliances Mirvac could supply. As they died, we replaced cooktop, rangehood and oven with Miele appliances and all work perfectly...... well one exception: the warming drawer has a switch at the back of the drawer which turns off drawer when you open it. It has failed/fallen apart twice in 10 years and is replaced by Miele at no charge.

So all in all, we are very happy users- in our hands, Miele appliances last 20+ years.

Hubby decided to play with the camera at Vivid last night. Setting called Illustration high.

I like that effect - what camera has this setting?
Sony RX100 III (mark 3)
Think we have more "unusual" settings photos from last night than any "proper" photographs.
BTW lost my brand new, only 1 in the store, purchased that morning, scarf while walking around, this is the only picture I have of it. :(

BabyGM turned one today. Can't help but wonder where the past 12 months went. She just gets cuter and cuter.

We worked on 6 years between our two GarrettM. Made me an older dad at preschool where the next generation dads seemed to all be over 195 cms so my neck hurt just looking up to talk with them.
