The totally off-topic thread

At the pool this morning we had a discussion on whether Bill Shorten could actually run a pay dunny. We decided that in the past we had Fraser, Hewson , Latham and Rudd who struggled.
I guess we might be surprised.

Was Malcolm there wondering why he can't walk on water anymore?

Oh for politicians who realise it is not about THEM nor the donors.

But I suppose that is, after all, the definition of politician.

Some curious stories about AEC and booth management Saturday. Booths had to close because they ran out of voting slips! Names on the electoral roll had reverted to old addresses (changed before the previous election) and married names converted back to maiden names. Seems like a data base reversion to a previous run.

Not to turn this thread over political, but the only thing missing from this by-a-hair election is someone to call out an allegation of rigging.

Bill Shorten was one of the main drivers behind the NDIS. Most pundits agree that probably only Shorten, can make a minority government work.

Watch out I might get a demo going under a banner-35.3% isn't a majority!:p:p:shock::lol:;)

Saw something about a perth IT think tank who are working on a long string method for voting. Similar to bitcoin. I forget the actually name of the method, but it is secured by itself, in that the encryption depends on what has already been voted (in this case). Tampering can be detected immediately because nothing will decrypt properly. Also it can be recounted.

Blockchain?

Finally looks like I am selling my unit. Took around 8 months and getting less than I expected. Sad time but such is life if you keep repeating the same mistakes. Definitely not going to be a nice guy next time I sell property. Take it to someone who knows what they are doing not leave it with the people managing the property.

Some good comes out of it. Now I can start abusing the credit card sign on bonus promotions. A lot of catching up to do....

JohnK have a look at the Amex Velocity as that is back on for 100,000 sign on points and a 20,000 referral. I don't need the referral but you could favour someone nice in AFF.

The NAB offer is pretty attractive at the moment and available on QF or VA cards - 0% balance, 0% purchases for 15 months plus 20k points (either program).

2% transfer fee (so effectively 2% interest per 15 months).

Australia's highest-earning Velocity Frequent Flyer credit card: Offer expires: 21 Jan 2025
- Earn 60,000 bonus Velocity Points
- Get unlimited Virgin Australia Lounge access
- Enjoy a complimentary return Virgin Australia domestic flight each year

Just listening to press conference by Turnbull and Joyce.

At neither Sky nor the ABC did the production geniuses think it worthwhile to allow their viewers to hear the questions being put. So there have been long periods of almost silence (as most journalists like the sound of their own voices) punctuated by waffle from the 2 you can hear.

I totally get this. Its ridiculous they let this happen. They do the same in the AFL football interviews after the match. Its irritating to listen to.

They don't tend to do these kinds of Q&A style interviews rather well, or at least I haven't seen a single station do it particularly well, unless it is an explicit interview or forum or the like. If it's just reporters putting questions on a standard press conference, they don't seem to give the reporters a microphone or something like that so their questions can't be heard. Sometimes you can barely hear it, but most of the time not really, so you only guess the question from the answer given.

Did anyone say anything useful or worthwhile on either side of the camera? If it's any consolation, at home sick and channel 7 didn't seem to have the questions either.

Not much. Turnbull made a bit of a grovel for his party's result, which was only a couple of days late. Barnaby Joyce needs to get his teeth fixed.

Is it just me, or do others cringe when they hear Turnbull speak? You'd think a former barrister would have command of his thoughts and words , but I find his constant stopping mid sentence to change direction or emphasis really irritating.

What difference does it make? WRT footy, it's better if you don't hear the trite question since it adds to the experience of WTF the player is on about. Normally the answer is the same or from the playbook.

Well Bananaby* is from queensland. Nothing wrong with us getting teeth fixed later in life.

I just wish Turnbull would say something of substance, or back up his talking with something of substance. He makes statements but then fails to sell the proposition, instead it's just "trust me".

This is not a political comment, it's about his style. I have the same criticism when he does this for things that I support.

* before anyone goes off like a raw prawn in the sun, that's a tribute to the late Matt Price who openly used that name. Bananaby even laughed along
