Currently being tortured with two days of training for a new online system that is "so intuitive that no one will need to be trained". After sitting through the first two sessions, I agree....I'm bored senseless and have learned nothing that I couldnt have figured out for myself.

JohnK have a look at the Amex Velocity as that is back on for 100,000 sign on points and a 20,000 referral. I don't need the referral but you could favour someone nice in AFF.

Well if you are interested it would be helpful...

So for some reasons Medibank has decided to send my bill by email instead of by post for the last months. Checked my online account and everything ticked for postal correspondence.

Bit of a PITA to call up their Indian Call Centre, but I prefer a paper copy and don't like being behind in bills.

That's what I was banging on about. Saw some show about an IT group in Perth looking at Block chain for voting. As per the description from that article. I've quoted the key parts below. Thinking of voting. Everyone has a private key, only they can vote using that key. When they vote everyone knows that they've voted and they can confirm that that person has voted. I assume that the vote can't be changed without the private key.

The blockchain is a new kind of database. Although it was first invented to store financial transactions with Bitcoin, in principle it can store any kind of data. The magic about blockchains is that they are distributed ledgers, just like the internet is a distributed network. Every asset is recorded semi-publicly so that anyone with access to the ledger knows who has what (not the asset itself, but a numerical representation). When a transaction takes place it is recorded through all copies of the distributed ledger. This can only occur when the asset holder uses their private key to decrypt the asset.

This is very exciting stuff. Blockchains promise to create more efficient services because they eliminate the need for oversight. There’s no need to send an invoice for a transaction that has occurred on a blockchain. When a transaction occurs it happens immediately, is irreversible, and everyone can confirm it. No need for audits.

Well Bananaby* is from queensland. Nothing wrong with us getting teeth fixed later in life.

I just wish Turnbull would say something of substance, or back up his talking with something of substance. He makes statements but then fails to sell the proposition, instead it's just "trust me".

This is not a political comment, it's about his style. I have the same criticism when he does this for things that I support.

* before anyone goes off like a raw prawn in the sun, that's a tribute to the late Matt Price who openly used that name. Bananaby even laughed along
Didn't Anthony Albanese have braces a couple of years ago?

Actually Barnaby was born in Tamworth and raised in Woolbrook.University was UNE in Armidale. His father came from NZ.He has moved back to his birthplace.

I agree 100% with your comments on Turnbull. This was a classic-

And that would be more Velocity points that I couldn't use. ;)

Anyone want to do a one for one swap Velocity to Qantas? Just over 150,000 Velocity points. I'd even take 140,000 QFF points in exchange. :p

Just catching up on reading my own thread after about a week (and hundreds of posts) so apologies to those I haven't been able to multi-quote ;)

Off home now to play indoor beach volleyball, then pick out a decent red to drink and contemplate the meaning of life, death and everything in between. My uncle has been taken off chemo and the palliative care "assessor" gives him 3-4 weeks before needing their services - so the search starts in earnest next week when my father and mother go up to help him "sort things out". Being together with my parents this weekend is now taking on a new meaning.

So many close deaths in a short period of time is really starting to get to me. Making me re-assess what is important in life, but also reducing my work output. C'est la vie

Totally agree, lost another relative to the black dog last week, wish I had known and reached out, but I honestly had no idea. :(

How does that work?

The saddest thing is sometimes you don't know and you think all has turned around for them... I had a mate the big black dog got but he seemed to have it all back on track... About 12 months before had broken up with GF of over 15 or so years and then they did the financial settlement with all the ups and downs of that process and got a great new girl and seemed to have sorted himself out and woke to the worst FB post I have ever seen.. Photo of water under a bridge and the words he used I will always remember... 2 bottles of Bourbon helped him to make it happen... But now I feel sorry for the morning walkers who found him... He left a note at his house as he did not want his nephew to find him...

On a more non serious note... Staying in Lake Tekapo in New Zealand and never thought I would so love a heated bathroom floor... It is currently cold... See attached 01467799240.jpg
