Advise parents to search "FATCA". Note that US income liability is based on citizenship - not residence. Unless there is a very good reason to the contrary, renouncing the USA (given Australian/English already) may be desirable. Note: one of my English (well actually Welsh) friends has intimate experience in this by virtue of marriage to a US citizen.

Happy wandering

Fred
That would only be a problem if they held US bank accounts that needed to report this?

They are very aware of that. One member of the mothers family renounced his US citizenship because of it.And don't they love it when you do that.

I'd hate to think how much they'll fleece the farang this time. ;)

Is it time for a beer yet?

Just because the beer is cheap doesn't mean it's not drinkable.

Now 7-Eleven has been ripping me off. The sticker price is 38 baht yet the cash register is charging 39 baht. Should I complain?

Some places the tax is added after the display price.

Given everything that's happening and the actual value of 1baht I personally would not bother but next time you might ask why it's a different price - might get it cheaper.

LOL. I am back in Thailand. My daughter was supposed to be born today and everyone would live happily after. Stupidity made me book flexible airfare outbound but only saver airfare inbound to save $50 on a ~$1400 airfare. How could I make such a mistake?

Work has been supportive. Back in Brisbane Friday morning then Sydney Friday night but think I'll head back here Sunday night if I can find availability. Was due to return 29 September but best I get back a few days earlier. Have an SQ award for 04 October to return back to Brisbane and need to see if I can change that too but availability was very limited when I booked.

7-Eleven ripped me off 3 baht but I was only kidding about complaining. Times must be tough. The duty free shop in domestic had Cang beer 45 baht beer last week but 's now 48 baht. How will I survive? ;)

Bunnings on Saturday charged me $9.90 for a CR2 battery that was displayed as $9.70 and I complained. It's not the money. It's the principle.

I know it's the principle JohnK but sometimes I tend to just let things pass if there are other more important things going on in life. :)
It is annoying though when you are charged more than the marked price. With bar coding of pricing now often goods don't have a price on them and by the time I get to the cash register I have forgotten exactly what it was so sometimes don't notice. Though my mother did have an avocado come up as $99 rather than 99c once

They're supposed to give you the item for free then! $9.90 for 5 mins work while the reverse the price, tax free. Not bad :)

I believe it is only supermarkets that follow that code of conduct. It is voluntary.

There is a bit of discussion here: https://choice.community/t/barcode-scan-price-errors/2879

And in unrelated news, tonight's dinner is (a rather hot) chicken balti followed by the last of the ice cream washed down with my last QF hand grenade.

The cauli hasn't made the cut, but the rest of the spring rolls, peas and other sundry items will fit in the car fridge. I switched it on this arvo and "turned it all the way up to 11".
