You've illustrated in one post most of the reasons i don't do cruises.....

Meh. Don't go into large shopping centres then. That's where my niece picked it up. Trouble is, that never gets reported.

What's next? Have to make a telephone appt with GP to get the result of a lab test organised by him. Anybody else have to do this?

Didn't explain this very well.

When, as requested, I called to talk to doc about the result of a lab test he sent off on Tuesday, the receptionist said I couldn't talk to him, but had to make an appt to talk to him on the telephone - none available today :( so has to be tomorrow. As he was running 30 mins late on Tuesday, just hope he isn't 30 mins late tomorrow when I call at the pre-arranged time.

our doctor is similar... although they have a couple of nurses who handle all the test results. You call between 2 and 3 and if they're on other calls you leave your number and they call you back in a minute or so. Works well.

I was eyeing of those European river cruises in small group sizes. Hubby still says no.

Mrsdrron was smart.I am interested in nature so our first cruise was on an 8 pax boat on Alaska's Inside Passage.Fantastic.
Alaska Small Ship Cruises | 5 Star Chef & Free Excursions

Next was a 16 pax boat around the Galapagos Islands.Memorable.

Then a big leap to the 100 pax Orion cruising the Kimberleys.it is now the National geographic Orion and cruises the Baltic.

4th the 110 pax Silver Explorer in the Arctic.fell in love with it.In 3 weeks we will be on our 8th cruise on it with another 4 booked.

I did Alaska and British Columbia for about a month in 1997... I suspect it's no where near as nice these days.

Have done one; advantage is that you visit places you probably wouldn't go to otherwise, disadvantage they can become rather claustrophobic as there are limited places to escape to. As well the tour guides can be pretty hit and miss. We had to endure several shockers, though managed to escape and do our own thing in a couple of places. The China river cruise was better. Seemed to be a lot of Americans on both; those on the China one were much more tolerant and interesting. As well the walking groups were smaller and better put together - super slowies in one group rather than holding up everyone else.

Oh and not forgetting that if the river is too high or too low, you may end up on a bus tour instead.

Another thing that has put me off these cruises is that they often seem to dock at the same ports and jetties - so a smallish town gets a sudden influx of tourists all at once. I have also read of people complaining about the "ships" being docked alongside each other so the pax on one or more cruise clamber over another cruise to get to shore and back. This side by side docking also apparently gives a lovely view into each others windows. But, as always, it is a matter of personal preference.

iOS rants #472 & 473:

It is almost impossible to flick up Control Centre when typing something (and the keyboard is in position).

I miss being able to change the icons in the Control Centre equivalent on Androids.

Aus Post has returned another parcel, this time as "unknown at this address" despite it being the address provided by the customer...
I had a parcel sent back to where it came from in the UK as unknown address. It was to my PO Box so hardly unknown. I got the sender to resend it adding my home address to the label. It was eventually delivered to my PO Box wit the new address label. I peeled it off to find the one underneath was quite correct. Maybe it is OCR software (mis)-reading the labels?

Can you please explain the assumption? It is now a bit over 6yrs since we were there but I am sure the distinct Alaskan character still burns brightly & there seemed to be good attitudes towards the natural environment

Why?! Just... why? ;)

Bindibuys, hope your place is safe - lots of fires round the Hunter this afternoon. Take care.
And also anyone else with a property up there.

Sorry for late reply. We were fine, hot, but all ok. We did go to death-con 2, suitcases open on lounge room floor, tow-bar put on car, animal cages by the door, fire clothes - still hanging up ready from last week, walk around the house with our fire list of what each of us wanted saved, then just either read or watched Dr Who.
