LOL just booked our two mutts in for their Xmas holidays - $2,950 + GST. I even have the pleasure of paying 100% by the end Sept .... hmmm, kennels might be a decent "silent" investment.

Could you get house/dog sitters for less than that?

Happy wandering

Fred
Have a look at trustedhousesitters. Cost about $10/month and it works very well. I have mentioned previously that our daughter and family are using it around the world. They are currently housesitting in Sweden.

We use it when we go away.

Much prefer a lizard then a possum.

With so many of our backyards getting subdivided we're leaving less backyards for our wildlife.

Oh. Don't worry. We have several possums. One was scratching in our roof last night.

Another reason to prefer cats, we are currently house sitting a chocolate burmese belonging to some friends, she curls up and sleeps most of the time, meows when she wants food, then goes back to sleep.

What's this +GST cough? I thought it was illegal to advertise items at a cost with +GST except for very specific business transactions.
I think that was only for shops where the displayed price has to include GST. Everything else can be + GST or GST exclusive/inclusive. If you forget to say that, then the default is it includes GST.

We found the wedding centre for Ms FM's wedding really annoying, as some of their prices included GST and some things didn't so I had to put everything into a SS before I knew what it was all costing. Also all sorts of things were compulsory (security, cleaning etc), so why not just bundle it into the venue hire price, rather than little bits all over the place!

More to the post that I made earlier about the food poisoning incidents in north Canberra, one of Erika's friends who also happens to be an ICU nurse has been very ill for the last week.

She and some others that we know eat there often, including last week and out of the 1/2 dozen she was with, she was the only one to get ill. Suspects it was the oj.

Already the ambulance chasers are trying to get a class action suit going.

Meanwhile it's all happening in Charnwood.... Car crashes into Charnwood Woolworths in Canberra's north - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

At least they would take your booking! I wanted to book our two plus Ms FM's two into a doggie apartment for Easter as we will be out of town for her wedding and they wouldn't even take a booking until mid Feb! Didn't make a lot of sense to me as even though you are confident of being full, why not take the booking and money! Presumably they didn't want the hassle of cancellations and refunds.

And we can't use dog sitters as Ms FM's Beagles are escape artists and we wouldn't trust them with anyone who doesn't know their ways - juvenile detention much better for them :). None of the four have been in a kennels yet, so will be interesting, but it is only 4 nights and they will be together in an apartment with a bed. We are a little worried the Beagles will eat the bed, but they are two now, so getting less destructive :)

Nothing wrong in listing any price as being plus GST - you just find it rare in retail settings as it wastes everyones time and pisses people off when GST is added and was not read as such.

It is actually a well known retail thing, that people will pay more and you will sell more as long as they are given an all inclusive price to consider - and will choose that over someone offering an overall lower price, but comes with plus GST + admin fee attached small print.

Take McD's for example, cheaper now to buy all the items from a meal individually, than it is to order them as a meal. Save yourself $3 and order the burger, drink, and fries as separate items.

To quote my late Grandfather, in regards to anything of spending money on dogs or cats, from food to vet bills:

"A bullet would be cheaper"

It is.

If the pricing is for standard retail transactions/quotes, then the price must be GST inclusive:

When you present prices to your customers, you must state the total price of the good or service as a single figure, which is the minimum total cost that is able to be calculated. This should include any tax, duty, fee, levy or other additional charges (e.g. GST or airport tax). This rule generally does not apply in business-to-business transactions. This means you do not need to include GST if a price statement is made exclusively to businesses.

Geeze, don't let JohnM see that rate. He minded 1 dog & 3 rabbits for the opportunity to spend 7 weeks in the Hunter Valley wine tasting.
Even paying someone from AFF their airfare (or use points ) to come stay and house/dog sit would have to be a better option.

It's been the law since I started running my business (which I closed the Australian arm back in 2011) so was surprised others were saying the opposite..
My business was exclusively business to business so I was able to write contracts and tenders as GST inclusive/exclusive so that is why I thought you were able to do it. I knew it was obligatory for any retail/restaurant etc to display prices as one price with the GST included. Seeing a lot of + GST these days from businesses - clearly they are unaware of the rules..... The wedding venue brochure didn't' worry me - easy enough to add 10% but it was more than a bit annoying to have to think - that price is GST inclusive that one isn't. Couldn't understand why you wouldn't at least be consistent across all your pricing!

That is quite concerning! Sounds like they should be reported..

oh no - they are really nice and it is not as though they are hiding anything just annoying. It clearly states + gst where gst is not included. After the wedding I will draw their attention to the problem and suggest they change their pricing to conform!

House is officially sold now; no more randoms walking around my home. Time to get on with proper packing.
