The totally off-topic thread

I can understand all the other states whinging about the GST allocation to SA. And we are still mired in debt. Increasing unemployment. No power solution. But the most expensive hospital in the world. That isn't operating yet.

Flux are just offering direct democracy, like the Swiss have? Doesn't seem as bad as the loonies Cove?!

At least you have an Upper House, we got rid of ours 95 years ago.

And a good thing too! Can you just imagine the trouble we would have with more unrepresentative swill living high on the hog off us downtrodden taxpayers, full of ONs, Huntin'Shootin'Fishin', Flouride Free Folks, AntiVaxs and other loonies, not to mention the L*P.

Now remind me if I have this wrong - but wasn't it like only yesterday at the peak of the resources boom that Barnett was wanting to secede cause there was too much in royalties flowing out of WA? Now you Sandgropers are sooking about not getting your fair share of the GST pie? Or have I been spending way too much time o/s?

I don't think any rational person has ever advocated for that. The problem seems to be that even though the mining construction boom has cooled WA is still giving up way more in GST than it's getting back. Isn't the redistribution based on calculations that are always 2-3 years out of date? Getting down to 30c/$ is not doing much for our bottom line. Mind you successive governments haven't done a great job of preparing for this eventuality.

Look at this list of gold plated affiliations:

  • Socialist Alliance
  • Pauline Hanson's One Nation
  • Flux The System!
  • Daylight Saving Party
  • FLUORIDE FREE WA
  • Micro Business Party
  • Independent
  • WA Labor
  • Independent
  • Shooters, Fishers and Farmers
  • Australian Christians
  • Liberal Democrats
  • The Greens (WA)
  • Independent
  • Animal Justice Party
  • Julie Matheson for Western Australia
  • Liberal Party
  • Family First
  • Independent

I was disappointed to get to the bottom of this list and not have been offered a chance to vote for the Silly Party's candidate Tarquin Fin-Tim-Lim-Bim-Whin-Bim-Lim-Bus-Stop-F'tang-F'tang-Ole'-Biscuit-barrel.

That'll be a write-in on Saturday then...

That list is enough to make one turn their back on democracy. The hardest part is figuring out who goes last. Although Family First is usually a good bet for that.

Brother of blakinho has worked out last place GarrettM and it was very difficult because there are so many contenders in our list of 58 applicants in the WA Upper House election. You may want to see his list. Do you get the day off seeing women are running the whole shop today?

I do have the day off in fact. Although not sure the two are related. Women tend to run most aspects of my life as it is. As for that list, his political knowledge and insight goes far beyond mine.

Funnily enough WA didn't return/decline the extra funds when they were being overpaid because the calculations were 2-3 years out of date.

Nah sounds about right.

Saw Book of Mormon in Melbourne recently. Hilarious if you don't mind being offended!

But I would probably go for Hamilton as I can't see it travelling here??

Book of Mormon is totally hysterical but you have to not be politically correct or sensitive. My daughter is addicted to the Hamilton soundtrack and we have had a lot of friends go and absolutely love it (I have no interest in it). Lion king is awesome. Charlie and chocolate factory translates to the stage surprisingly well. Avoid Mamma Mia like the plague (and I am an Abba fan). I will be overnighting in May and will hopefully get to finally see Avenue Q. Very interested in hearing about whatever you do see.

Had my first door knock of a pollie, he could see I was struggling to cut my grass he offered to finish it off, I of course said no. Thirty minutes later he came back and re asked if he could help.

Been told in my seat the one nation candidate has pulled out but remains on the ballot.

Also heard to stop candidates getting elected by a party and then becoming independents One nation get their candidates to sign a contract with a 250k pay back to the party if they leave .... I
