Banknotes - Frequently Asked Questions | Bank of England

Anyone got an old UK 5 pound notes - no longer valid tender. I'll be there in a few weeks so will take the opportunity to visit the old lady of Threadneedle street

I've got a Florence Nightingale tenner I've had sitting on my desk these last 20 years. Loved the old pounds. Felt like real money. William Shakespeare on the twenty. Duke of Wellington on the fiver (they changed it while I was there - smaller, less impressive note). Christopher Wren on the fifty - now that was a bank note!

I used to get flowers every Friday (made easy by the guy going office to office every Friday selling them) I do get cards, and dinner cooked most nights he is home. Would not call him "romantic" but DEFINITELY he is a gentleman. (opens car doors, walks next to the roadway, holds my hand when walking)

Reminds me of the Prisoner theme song.

He used to give me roses
I wish he could again
But that was on the outside
And things were different then

Attended a wedding on the Terrace last night. Knowing how vulture like the rangers are at the City of Perth, I paid the minimum card payment to ensure I was legally parked until the end of the signage period (~30 minutes or so). The machine noted a 1% surcharge, but upon checking the ticket (which also mentions the 1%), I noticed I was surcharged 3%. Whilst the difference was a whole 4c which I'm not fussed about in the scheme of things, I wonder how many people are getting slugged the extra surcharge by this shonky practice?

House sale update: Accepted price on Wed but buyer didnt exchange contract in time for Saturdays viewing so we went ahead with viewing. Got offer on Saturday, signed contracts on Saturday afternoon.

Now we wait.

I was happy to only have to do minimal work between tenants on the weekend. Wash curtains, new shower curtain, replace 1 power point and new cover on another, and put new handles on the vanity. Will need to replace lino in the kitchen when next vacant.
Bring on the next tenant.

We were faced with complete redo inside and that was the selling factor for hubby. Individually, not overwhelming but he was done with this property. Its almost 70yrs old.

Thursday and Friday, we focused on the yard cleanup. To show how much land there was and that was a huge job. 12sqmtr skip full of star stakes (about 2 dozen of them), chicken wire, chain fencing, branches, shrubs, bricks (oh, the bricks!) ect but by the end, we sat on the deck and said, "Holy poop, its a proper lawn and yard now!" Lots of sunlight, with afternoon shade to enjoy.

Doubt it make much difference to the buyer but at least it looked nicer when you drove up to it.

Oh, and I installed a new letter box & pole with numbers. The Postie was very happy with me on Friday as Im told the old tennants removed the mail box pole about a year ago and the box was on the ground.

Turkish Airlines drop a bag and clothes end up burnt.Hmmm.

A spokesman for Birmingham Airport said: 'The airline has received a report from their handling agent in Istanbul to confirm that the bag fell off a trolley before loading and was consequently damaged and the contents fell out onto the apron.
'The agent repacked the bag and wrapped it with the cellophane type material to protect any more contents falling out before reloading.
