I have been good this year as I have not taken any time off without pay like the previous couple of years.

The year just started :p

There’s always a debate about how much people spend on re-qualifying for status, but if you take this trip, having already got the SC’s for the next year, will you have enough money to spend to re-qualify for the year after, or is that a “we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it” sort of thing?

Bad choice of words. If I space my holidays out the way I have then I will not need to take any time off without pay this year.

My QF membership year ends in May and I have Platinum until May 2011. I had budgeted (and about to pay) for a couple of status run at the beginning of the June Thailand trip which along with the QF flights coming back to Australia end of June would get me half way to re-qualifying Platinum status for another year. So don't really need anymore status runs for that purpose.

The October trip is partly due to the cheap airfare I found AUD1153 BNE-SYD-SIN-SYD-BNE on Qantas (AUD953 less AUD200 discount for voucher) plus I would not be able to survive from June until the December trip without another break.

Do I need more status runs during that trip? No. But I do enjoy visiting multiple countries in the one day. I would not do it in economy but it is bearable in business class. Cost? Sure it is a concern but there are other things to consider.

I can't play golf everyday. Weekends is when I normally don't want to play golf (green fees are more expensive and I want some rest from golf). So what does one do? I do not want to sit around all day drinking so a few flights (no point calling it a status run at this stage) at the beginning or the end of the trip is fine and I do enjoy the short haul business class flights. Plenty of time for golf in between.

Everything is planned out just need to book some flights and worry about the rest of the details later....

Anyone else been getting as much rain as we have on the Gold Coast. BOM shows 100mm+ in 24 hours, though it only started 12 hours ago ;) The lake in front of our place has risen a foot and a half and the golf course looks to be going under soon!

I hope this is falling in the catchment areas too.

We had 0.2mm last night. First recorded rain for something like 78 days!

Yep, we had 112mm to 9am this morning, and it looks like hell of a lot more to come on the radar.

Just going by the water overflowing from the pool and the ankle deep swamp in the back yard, I would say it was similar to the north of Brisbane as well.

... and I thought So Cal was copping it - only a mere 3.55" (Hollywood)

Mind you most flights in/out of IAD for the last 36 hours have been cancelled due to snow.

I can tell you now that AirNZ PE knocks the sucks off Qantas PE!

You mean "socks", right:?:

As it stands, what you have could be sordidly interpreted , or should be put into the "F"As  thread.

On a slightly related note to your post, however, I have to admit that I'm considering flying NZ PE over for Star Mega Do later this year. The new PE won't be flying until at least Dec 2010, though :(. I'm thinking of paying in cash and possibly considering a standby upgrade to BP (will have to mull on that one). Won't be too bad for my BD Gold requal (but unfortunately NZ PE only gives 1.0x miles on BD, not 1.5x :().

Oh dear!

Is $2,500 the standard price for JQ *class SYD-HNL return, or is that a special?

According to the last Star Class sale JQ had, $2,500 would be the standard price.

FWIW the last sale had JQ *C SYD-HNL for $679 one-way. To be honest, that was the best price they've had on that sector for a long time, but even with other Star Class sales in the past, *C for SYD-HNL has not been greater than $1,000 one-way.

Hmmm, I wonder whether it's worth waiting to see whether there will be a sale in September.

Not sure 0.2 mm qualifies as rain!

Maybe someone spat in the general vicinity of the rain gauge ;)

For a while this morning we had a surface tension pool :D

It’s stopped raining here now, but you say there’s more to come? I think we had between 100 and 200mm on the Gold Coast.

Driving up the motorway was dodgy, so many tailgaters when visibility is practically nothing.

Yep, I came home in January. :p
And you are off again to the USA in March the week after you head off to HKG, TPE and BKK.

I would hate to think how much you are spending on airfares trying to maintain top status in two Alliances....

Did the "Rusty Hinge"Dam cop the 4"to 8" ? Be good to see it full again, our Baroon Pocket Dam is full, hopefully Somerset will spill over also.....

Cheers Dee
