After my bigpond cable being down four 5 days, back online......mystery how the line fixed itself on a sunday....

On a Sunday? Maybe the harmonics from the church bells shook the ground causing the cable to re-align itself... can't see many Telstra (or their contractors) being around on a Sunday!

Actually, Telstra techs do work weekends.

Some time ago, I moved house and the telstra landline was terrible with clicks and white noise.

Dial up was impossible; adsl unmanageable.

Put in a call Thursday; tech came out Friday, unable to fix due to need to dig in a neighbouring property.

Finally fixed on that Sunday. (I was playing golf and received an SMS to advise).

I've experienced things being done on weekends, also.

... I would hate to think how much you are spending on airfares trying to maintain top status in two Alliances....
Actually the impact to my annual expenditure is minimal; maybe even positive.

The last 4 years I have had ~3300 in total SC's "expire" above the 2100 annual PG mark, so no real stress in redistributing that travel to another program/alliance. Since I now have LTSG it's an even easier decision.

And, within N/A, the SC cost is generally not as much as it would cost in Asia.

This trip, the transpac airfare was a Grabaseat, ~AUD740 return. 220 AP$ e/w to upgrade to PE. Flying United "HUP*" fare this trip, airfare was AUD650 for 330 SP's, that's 65% of *G requal.

Last month, for the basic travel, the airfare was a QF Sale booked in Mar last year for AUD910 and earned 100 SC's. AA "Business Special" fare cost ~AUD990 and earned 540 SC's; that's 55% of WP requal.

And...ummm...how often do they get.... ahem... knocked off:?:

Given I am wielding knitting needles (or other weapon) a fair percentage of the time I doubt anyone would want to steal my socks.

By the way I am warming up to enter the knitting Olypmics.

Any chance you can show me how to fly as often as you and have a positive impact on my annual income statement?

Get a job that involves flying :!:

Actually, I'd be happy with any job at the moment ;)

Although I did knock back one offer as it didn't feel right and wasn't really suitable... Don't know whether I should be kicking myself or not.

C'est la vie!

I guess I meant in a relative sense, it's possible putting some of the additional effort that generated SC's beyond 2.1K to another alliance to get *G may actually cost less than it has been.

As far as work related and having travel being tax deductible goes, it still requires expenditure. I did once try to give you a lead on this ...

Perhaps hindsight says you should have taken the job offer to keep yourself busy and earning some money. No one says you cannot continue to look for a job once you have a job....

That one was a lot more complicated than just accepting or rejecting. It's a long story, not suitable for AFF.

Also while at Honkers waiting for a flight, got a call from a random recruiter. Glad she called at that time, rather than 5pm UK Time (ie 1am HK time!)

I think I remember but you need to refresh my memory next time we meet. I am not sure I would be able to have a job that involves travel being tax deductible.
