No, housekeeper probably costing commercial cost of sheet special cleaning including time etc. I couldn't imagine making a mess like that and not going to the hotel and offering to replace the sheet with new. Yuk!
It wasn't that bad. It was a few stains on the bed sheet. Laundry cost of THB100 for bed sheet is dead giveaway that it wasn't bad. She was trying on a scam and when wife told her husband will talk to management she shut up.

P.S. The bed sheet that she had put on the queen bed that day had yellow stains on it. We didn't complain. She doesn't clean the tiled floors. We didn't complain.

So what is security like these days? We were going through metal detectors into our hotel and had armed guards when we were there in 2014. Has it calmed down a bit? The traffic from the airport into the city is crazy, but it gives lots of time to look at the vultures in the trees. I think I am suffering Africa withdrawal symptoms :)

Still metal detectors (but we had that in Delhi too) and to get into the hotel driveway a security check of the car, using mirrors to check underneath. Really busy on the drive here, even at 10.30 at night!

so still the same. Nairobi always seems to be buzzing :)

I watched the Lego Batman movie this week, and I thought it a nice touch that they had "Bam" and "Kapow" and the like appear.

I thought the sound effect bubbles were a nice touch to the movie. I also liked the other references in the movie to the Adam West era.

Jesus, John. You have a kid to keep healthy, a kid that had a rough start in life. Go to a cleaner hotel.

Heading down to Maasai Mara shortly, so shall be offline for a few days. With how crazy work has been it'll be good to disconnect completely.
envious :). We've just booked a camp in Maasai Mara for next year - had to in order to get into Giraffe Manor.... I am glad we did as it seems silly to be in Kenya and not go to one of the "famous" reserves. Have a great time :)

We're talking about visiting Africa and one of the park options was for a self driving holiday, from Johannesburg to Botswana. Yeah... Thats a no chance in hell answer.
once you get clear of the Johannesburg area you would be fine. Botswana itself is wonderful - lovely country and the northern Transvaal is pretty good too.

We prefer to fly though - maximise game viewing :). I am in the process of booking Giraffe Manor, Sala's Camp (Maasai Mara), Segera (Laikipia Kenya) then Bisate Lodge in Rwanda to visit the Gorillas, then Tanzania - Mara River Camp, Sabora and Sasakwa which are all Singita properties. Pretty much light planes between all of them, except one leg between Nairobi and Kigali which will be Kenyan Air. We are hoping to see the great migration but it is all a bit of luck really, as it can be early or late, so you have no idea.

Why not? South Africa is fine to drive, Botswana (and Namibia) even more so.

the area around Johannesburg can be dangerous particularly at night. Once you get away from it, I agree no problems driving in South Africa (apart from their road death toll, which is a bit crazy).

I doubt that many people going to S Africa would be intending to drive much through Jo'burg, especially at night. The freeways are fine for getting away from JNB quickly!

unless you get lost of course :). I have a lot of friends and family in South Africa - while as long as you are sensible there is no problem, it doesn't pay to get too blasé about the country, but then I have had an uncle killed in a car jacking and a 80 year old aunt, slashed with a knife and robbed walking in the street, so I am probably a little inclined to carefulness.

I have got to NRT for my flights home.

Quiz:

Now, for those who have been paying attention - how did I get here, ie what routing did I take from MEL when I left last Sunday?

I can't offer a prize but you will get accolades aplenty!

Edit: for those of you who have access to my TripIt account, you are ineligible to enter. You know who you are!

Train ....... :d
Z
Ok smarty-pants: how did I get here - from Melbourne?

:D
