I remember when you mentioned your Hubby didn't know the difference between Brocoli and Cauliflower. I was going to make a joke about him living a sheltered life and whether you found him in a sheltered... Well it's too mean a joke.

He has a greek mum ;)

interesting question. Given that his election was invalid I would think so. In fact he should pay back his salary and perks already paid, but pollies would never permit that.

I knew we'd agree on something :).

He says that since he left NZ at 3, he was unaware that he was a NZ citizen. If you are a dual citizen, surely you have dual tax obligation when you become an adult .. pay tax in 1 country and satisfy the other country that you had satisfied the tax treaty obligations. Or do the kiwis just 'lose' citizens?

I do have a deal of schadenfreude on this. The Greens being so sanctimonious about when something like this happens to other politicians and all that.

Just heard on the radio him giving a bit of a verbal finger to the proposition that he should repay his "inappropriately"-gotten gains. Of course! ... its easy being Green  .

I meant to quote the TV survey a few posts up but hit the wrong button.

I did that survey too. I thought it was very funny and wondered the same thing.

Sorry! I'll try to do better next time. Unfortunately it all happens to us sometime in our life.:)

Sigh. Wonder which pollies from other parties will have the fortitude to come out and demand he pays it all back. But what a terrible precedent that would set!

When reading reviews on new dryer, a lot of people complained about the noise.

No idea what they are complaining about. I can barely/straining to hear it from the laundry room and that's with the TV off/no noise.

As he was not properly a senator, neither is he a former senator nor can the Greens appoint another Green to that senate spot because he cannot resign and therefore not a casual vacancy
Properly it will need to go to the High Court who may order AEC to do a recount . Most likely it will go to the next candidate below Ludlum for that State senate ticket

Yes, so welcome the next Greens candidate on the ticket, Mr Jordan Steel-John.

According to ABC electoral expert, Anthony 'Green', if this guy declines to participate in the re-count, and Ludlum renounces his Kiwi citizenship AND re-nominates, as the only available Green, he could be re-appointed to the Senate.

That would be Antony Green. Not quite sure why his surname is in quotes.

... and I'm having a minor celebration. I got my first thesis chapter back from my supervisors today. Lots of red ink, but mainly formatting and punctuation (oh, OK ... mis-spellings as well ) A scientist writing history was always going to be a tricky conversion. I think they generally liked it :)

Great news. Conrats. So now that trip can be written off against tax? ;)

As we were discussing Greens politicians, it was a nudge towards a malapropism (yeah I know, that's not the right word, but its Friday night and my education has failed me)

It's not malapropism. Actually it's more 'nominative determinism' isn't it? Well, oh no, he's not a member of the 'green' party so... But it was just a joke I suggest.

As little long as you got your references correct and cited one of the examiners, you'll be fine.:)

Can anyone help me find a TR that mentions a ryokan on an island in Japan. Someone stayed there with their family in the past year - 2 or 3 kids and adults??
The family stayed there for one night, had a traditional dinner.

i am trying to find the name of the ryokan and the location. TIA!

Good to know the universe doesn't get in the way of political expediency..

"Asked by reporters how legislation would prevent users simply moving to encryption software not controlled by tech companies, Turnbull said Australian law overrode the laws of mathematics.

“The laws of Australia prevail in Australia, I can assure you of that. The laws of mathematics are very commendable, but the only laws that applies in Australia is the law of Australia.”

Hilarious.
