No. I want my car perfect again. Dont like it scratched :(

It hasnt even driven 11K yet... yes, its 2yrs old but im officially Little Old Lady status in driving these days.

You live in Sydney - one car dealer's oft quoted remark to new car owners just before they drove off;
"Put a small scratch on it before Sydney does, a second scratch never seems so bad!"

So true!

Im a bit disbelieving that these 2 Green senators did not know about their dual citizenship.
In Ludlum's case, he had various opportunities or at least triggers over the years to check his own circumstances.
In Waters' case, she knew she was born overseas.

At best a lack of attention to detail. At worst.....

Both did not bother to check earlier this year most recently when Labor tried to challenge the Kenyan born senator Lucy G***** citizenship quaifier(ill have to check speling of name)

Both born Overseas. In between getting elected and getting sworn in, wouldn't their be enough time to check your citizenship status?

Esepcially when a few years ago Ludlum was petitioned to prove he renounced NZ citizenship - he never did. And there were mutterings about Derryn Hinch NZ status and Abbot British.

I once sat next to a conductor on a flight, I admitted my ignorance and said but what do you do?

He asked me to close my eyes and open them when I get to 20. I was way off. He said, "I keep the music in time".

Very basic lesson but I still remember it 15+yrs later.
I hope your conductor seat-mate was not as rude as the orchestra conductor who was berating the drummer. He said "When we find someone who can't read music and can't keep time, we give them two sticks and make them sit behind the drums". After which the drummer pipes back "and if he can't manage that, we take away one of the sticks and make him stand out the front."

Not much incentive to, is there? Once they got in its up to others to catch them out, it seems.

Two other Green Senators Wish-Wilson and McKim also born overseas (Singapore and UK respectively). Wonder if they are going through their paperwork right now?

Sometimes I still think about some of the pax that I read about. That couple whose 3 children and one set of grandparents died, how horrible it would have been to start over. I think they have since had another child but still, horrible for them.
my friends daughters are in Amsterdam at the moment for the opening of the memorial. There were some truly tragic stories, but I think the one of the couple losing their children had to be the worst. I have some of the sunflower seeds from the Ukraine, but can't bring myself to plant them - in fact have turned totally against sunflowers - even hated them at Vivid.

Whish-Wilson says he is OK because he was born on an Australian military base in Singapore

Just arrived in Amsterdam an hour or so ago. We will watch out for the memorial. The weather today here is stunning.

I gathered that from the photos my friends daughters put up on facebook - enjoy the weather :) Freezing and wet in Canberra :)

Slowly catching up on your trip report - treat myself to 5 pages every night before going to sleep :)

Agree. But. Born to Australian parents in Canada and returned to Australia at 11 months. Seems reasonable that she did not know but yes she should have checked.

Maybe time the restriction imposed over a 100 years ago should be revisited. If you are eligible to vote in Australian election then you one could suggest that you should be eligible to sit in parliament. The current law disenfranchises Australian citizens born to a foreign parent or born overseas who want to keep their citizenship of another country.

In the U.K., the rules are "People wishing to stand as an MP must be over 18 years of age, be a British citizen or citizen of a Commonwealth country or the Republic of Ireland".

In Canada, it's just Canadian citizenship that counts. So I can stand for election in the U.K. but Waters can't stand for the senate here.

A stray dog killed our chickens this morning. Dog was caught a few doors up by Council. $220 fine to owner who allowed their entire male staffy to wonder the streets. Meanwhile, I have to tell the children that their pets are dead, clean 'the slaughterhouse', and buy more chickens.

Any ideas on how to value chickens and if its its worth chasing the dog owner for compensation?
There is a precedent. After the Ash Wednesday 2 fires (1983) one family claimed and received tens of thousands of dollars compensation for (I think) seven chickens.

No wonder the Stirling Council was bankrupted.

This is Sophia and Esmeralda. They have mountains of hand luggage and have just arrived in the adults only pool area of the ship. There are a few of us staying later and we have spaced ourselves out so we don't bother each other.

Sophia and Esmeralda are two older ladies, perfectly groomed. Lots of bling. The adults pool area is quiet with only a few lounges taken. Plenty of large spaces with no one else in the area. But Sophia and Esmeralda have plonked themselves right next to another trio of travellers. Right next to them and put all their hand luggage in their way. I suspect the trio will shortly be making an exit.

We should start with eliminating each state having 12 senators.

Then also get rid of councils whose only purpose is to collect rubbish and justify their existence in other ways that simply frustrate residents and small business.
