Fully understand the cost factors it must make it hard when cost of repairs are over 50% of the purchase price of a new machine.
Our LG combo washer stopped several years ago. Tech came around and had a look. Its a front loader non belt driven - one of those direct drives. Meaning the drum (where you put the clothes in) is directly attached to a motor which spins the drum. To make the motor spin it is enclosed in a metal plate which is magnetic (called a stator) . The pic below left is an example of a rotor with the brown coil copper windings and right silver stator - essentially a metal plate. The rotor which is mounted to the base of the drum sits inside the stator. Nothing can go wrong with the stator unless warped

Tech guy said stator is fault
I had a look - its not warped and rotor spins cleanly inside it -j ust a stator - nothing to break.
I said it cant be the stator - please check the logic board.
He said it could be the logic board but they are expensive, better to replace the stator first which is cheap then if still not working ill come back and check the logic board.
I said its a stator - its not warped nothing wrong with it.
Tech guy tested the logic board. Said logic board seems to be working but stator not allowing rotor to spin.
I said stator is just a dumb plate unless warped it cant stop rotor from turning.
Round and Round we go
I then said just replace the logic board. If it still does not work then no comeback against tech guy.
Agreed
Replaced logic board 1 week later - all working.
Who said high school physics is useless?
