Didn't Robert Menzies consider entering the UK parliament?
That is a rumour that has been denied many times.
However until 1949 Aussies and Kiwis were UK citizens. There were no Aussie or Kiwi citizens.Which meant anyone born in a British Empire country could be a member of the Australian Parliament. It was not the intention of those who wrote the Constitution to deny Kiwis or Canadians the right to be a Member of Parliament. And in the States they still can be.

Can Australians citizens that reside in the UK vote in UK elections and vice versus?

Yes, it's not a problem. Just go and put yourself on the electoral roll here. You can vote in Australian elections also by postal vote or by swinging by Australia House on the Strand. I don't know whether UK citizens resident in Australia can vote in local elections though.

Oh you totally needed no convincing. Details? Steerage? Get the gowns and tux ready!

I just noticed this at the bottom of the page. Is it a new feature?

I think its unnecessary clutter and a bit stalky,

Might be fun for trip reports but then there is a view counter for that.

And another AFF gathering that straitman will miss because he is on a cruise.

Ouch. Fingers crossed.

So much for once being the smart country, Ive read many take their research elsewhere/to where the funding is.

Research grant results are trickling through....make or break time for many scientists who are hoping to have jobs for next year.
My niece is in same situation. Been going crazy writing grant applications. Sleep disorders seem to be an ‘in thing’ currently so hopefully ok.

It's why I moved from research into administration, my job is more secure (at least, it is here because I'm funded centrally rather than via a grant).
