Well I headed out to Londonderry today (and other towns along the way). Apart from bomb threats destroying my plans I had a reasonable time, and achieved most of what I wanted to see.

Something I am wondering though... On the train, we passed the end of the Derry Airport runway. I've seen airports that have roads at the end of the runway, beaches at the end of the runway, sea at the end of the runway - but not a train track at the end of the runway...

So are there other airports that have a train track running past the end of the runway? (Google Map reference : City of Derry Airport, Derry BT47 3, United Kingdom - Google Maps )

Not sure about tracks at the end of runways, but there are a number where the train tracks actually cross the runway. Until 2005 Wynyard in Tasmania was one...

Richard.

No remote linking in Tasmania? Well, you couldn't be more correct

What did you expect? You are in Ireland!

Is this supposed to be some sort of image? All I can see is the warning message about remote linking forbidden for FREE accounts.

Sorry about that - I should have left the check box ticked when inserting the image - post fixed now

That’s really close, but I guess even if there aren’t train tracks at the end of other runways, there might be other obstacles, such as at SXM (that goes beach, road, fence right).
How about a golf course in between 2 runways such as DMK. Or even high rise apartment buildings at the old Hong Kong airport.

Great picture. Any idea who has right of way? Is it first in best dressed? :p

Would have loved to play there when it was still the main airport, though my shots are pretty bad, I think my (golf) balls might have ended up on the runway too much for their liking.

I have played many games of golf at Kogarah Golf Club in Sydney and while it is not as close as the golf course at Don Muang it is still exciting when hitting golf shots as the aircraft are taking off. Feels like the golf ball is heading straight for the aircraft....

Completely unrelated to travelling, but I'm just on my way home from the Massive Attack concert at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl in MEL .. absolutely phenomenal stuff! :D

How do I always find out about artists playing in Australia that I like after they’ve played… or after they’ve sold out of tickets?

Guess I read the wrong websites.

Sign up with the ticketing companies to get alerts when concerts are announced, e.g. Ticketmaster

Ryanair has wet-leased some planes to BA to assist with their flights on some domestic sectors while the cabin crew strike is on.

I can't decide if I want to go on a one-day jaunt to Glasgow (cost circa $A150), earning 20 sc's, and experience Ryanair with lounge access and priority boarding ;)

Need to consider it later tonight, but it sounds like the recipe for a good laugh on a Sunday.

After driving the back road (along the beach) to WLG airport, I thought that was certainly close...nothing like a train at Wyndham though :o

My dad does that. Finds great bands like Fleetwood Mac and Carole King & James Taylor playing in Australia, asks me if I want to go, of course I reply positively and then he never books the tickets :p

You should totally do it.

Sounds like you are having way too much fun, and too much time on your hands, in the UK! ;)

By the way did you manage to save some AUD for a rainy day? You must be very happy with the current exchange rates....

Correct on both counts ;)

Every day that you're not working is a rainy day. And yes I'm pretty happy with the current exchange rates ( 1.64 $AUD / GBP. )
