Look what you people have done to me:evil:, I used to be a simple minded flyer before AFF.

Now look what I'm doing, instead of going HBA-BNE-CNS like a normal person sees when booking. I'm gonna spice if up a bit and avoid flying the E190 back to back (See: http://www.frequentflyer.com.au/com...ocity/virgin-blue-embraer-e190-ife-24399.html) by going HBA-MEL-BNE-CNS for the same price, talk about messy, HBA-MEL on QF and the rest on DJ:rolleyes:

Just kidding:lol: more status credits and points for me:mrgreen:

Oy gevalt.

I am getting sick to death of people confusing simple words.

'Lose' and 'loose' come to mind. So does 'deserts' and 'desserts'.

Honestly, is it that difficult to use them correctly?

Also.. they're/there/their, your/you're and where/were.

There is nothing that annoys me more than people who cannot use the correct 'there' and 'your' word!!

Advise and advice are frequently used incorrectly.

Your when the author should use you're, it's instead of its and there are a lot more.

It annoys the heck out of me.

So we're all going to agree to agree then :p:mrgreen:

The first is a verb, the second is the noun, right?

If you pronounce each one, there shouldn't be much chance of confusing them, right?

My experience lately is that spelling is the least of our problems. Try dredging your way through bug reports where basic grammar is lacking. I have taken up rejecting reports I can't understand on the first reading.

I dare say the sad fact is that they're supposed to be educated people supposedly, right?

Yes, I used to work with/for a supposedly educated person, who always said supposably. Annoyed the hell out of me. Then after about 6 months I hear one of the senior managers saying the same thing

I also have a very important safety realted document at my new work (started 6 months ago) that is basically unreadable. I have to review this thing. :!:

But I must admit to being annoyed by incorrect usage on here, including of/off hear/here fare/fair, but I try to refrain from mentioning it because I often make mistakes myself. Recently I have been doing a lot of leaving off the 'ing' and 'ed' but I also mix up principle and 'pal, dessert and desert and sweet and sweat. This is because while I realise the difference I forget (or basically have no idea of) which is which. Poor Sir Joh sponsored education, is my excuse.

Is it possible to blame him for the fact that Australians on average absolutely suck at numeracy?

Note: knowing how to use a calculator doesn't count!
I'd have to answer no for 2 reasons. 1. his education was only for the queensland australians. 2. I'm a physicist, so he did ok by my numeracy.

A couple of more that I notice, knew/new, and Know/now - I have no idea how those last 2 get confused as they don't sound the same as well as not having the same meaning.

I'm one of the diminishing number, I guess, of people who were taught to use slide rules and logarithm tables in high school. I've never touched* either since year 10 but still retain the benefit of having an appreciation of the order of magnitude of numbers. They would give you several digits of an answer but you had to work out the magnitude yourself.

So often now I see young people using calculators and having no idea that the answer is just preposterous. Multiplying two two-digit integers together will always result in a number less than 10,000 but they would rather believe the calculator or computer than think maybe they made a typo.

Spent 4 days in New Zealand and was so glad I missed the election coverage.

Queenstown was cold, which was as expected as I wanted there to be snow.

Jetstar Lounge in Auckland domestic was nothing special but at least it had free wifi.

Even caught up with a few AFFers in the 4 days.

Auckland is one of the few airports where Jetstar will transfer your bags onto Qantas international flights.
