This is dsn, last surviving member of the nostromo signing off at 6 4 3 4

just watched Tekken Movie yesterday - it was good, but might not be good to anyone else, but you have to really compare it to the game, you'll say 1 thing, it sucks

*THE* classic Unix horror story | WSU Linux Users Group

An old tale and one we've all heard before, but still, good reading as a reminder how IT people can pull off some rather insane things in rather esoteric ways.
The scary part is that I had a similar experience in the late 1980s. A customer had issued "rm -r *" and after realising what she had done, just powered the system off (no shutdown, just pulled the power). Of course it would not boot again.

Luckily it was a SCO Unix (or was it Xenix - can't remember) system and I was able to boot from an install floppy disk and get to a command prompt in single-user mode. From there I could mount the screwed up root filesystem into a temp directory, and then was able to use tar to make a backup of the hard disk root filesystem onto floppy disks! About 80 disks later I have a backup of what remained of the root filesystem. Then I could go through a fresh install back onto the disk (from floppies) and then restore the backup. Took all night to rebuild it, but had it back up and running my 9am following morning, much to the delight of the customer's system admin who has misused the "rm -r *" command.

We need you here for stability. ;)

I am thinking of going up to Royal Beerwah for a game of golf mid-September in the Saturday morning members competition. Any useful tips?

Just had a rather enjoyable experience de-planing QF15 and doing customs and all the other normally lengthy things at LAX.
From door open to open-air took 23 mins at terminal B, and the customs officer of Black American origin was funny and very fast at his job.
Still can't believe it.........

Cheers Dee

You shuldn't have any problems.I play there because theoretically I cant get into too much trouble:lol:.Mainly though because reasonably flat so OK on my knee.Unfortunately I'm not back until end September-then straight off to Tassie.

Good news! They've identified the guy who assaulted me a few weeks back and the arrest warrant is being issued soon.

Just got off the phone with the Enquiry team at the Police Rail Unit. My assailant surfaced yesterday, surprise surprise, on the Armadale line.

Circulation of his photo did the trick, because despite the so-and-so giving false details in his encounter with Transit Guards yesterday, the photos and their additional enquiries resulting have given them enough information to positively identify him, complete the charge file and draft the arrest warrant.

Also found out that he was spouting the same race-hate in the casino, which was the reason he was ejected from there as reported earlier. Burswood quite rightly don't take too kindly to any of their staff being abused or vilified, racially or otherwise.

Karma is a cough, and it's biting this guy - hard.

Excellent news the this 'person' (insert any name you like) will be sorted at last. Hopefully it won't just be another slap on the wrist :!:

Good progress, although they've only got the arrest warrant.

The police have still got to actually capture him, and the difficulty of such a task is anyone's guess.

I hope so too. Needless to say, with all the charges piling up, quality of the evidence, an additional charge of giving false details from yesterday, a decent judge, and my victim impact statement which I'll start writing in a few days - it should be a slam dunk for the prosecution.

I do feel sorry for the guy, because working in mar/comms means I do know how to write for an intended audience ;)

They've got all the information they need to apprehend him. The way things are going and based on the quality of the intelligence they have acquired after yesterday's encounter, he should be expecting a set of cuffs before week's end.

He might have a couple of bruises after he gets hauled off to the brig.
If they're doing their job properly there should be no visible evidence. ;)
on the presumption that they would even show (given his skin colour)

Not the most appropriate comments IMHO. I don't advocate violence regardless of the colour of one's skin, but one does hope he'll be getting a healthy dose of punishment from the universe in the fullness of time.
